I think this car looks nice for a full size FWD sedan. Light years ahead of the old 500/Taurus. Too bad that couldn’t come up with a v6 hybrid version of this. If I had to choose between this and the new LaCrosse it would be a “toss up” at this point. vicne, I am hopeing that you take some good photos of the cars at the Detroit Show (if you go) try to get some angles so we can get a better sense of the cars instead of the lame corporate phots the automakers relase. Have fun at the show! I look foreward to what you have to say.
Sorry to report, but I am unable to attend the show myself. I was all ready to go, but something came up .
I don’t care for Fords (had one decades ago that was just too unforgivably horrible), but the new Taurus looks like a winner to me and I hope Ford sells enough of them to save the company. If it’s built from the Volvo S80 chassis, it should be excellent.
The tendency for so many of today’s auto designers to belong to the “Chrysler Sebring, Goofy C-Pillar Society” is a disappointment–hard to say what’s going on with the Taurus’ reverse kick rear side widow along with stainless steel-trimmed black paint creating a different look……….oh, well.
it looks good but not great. it looks really tall for some reason. maybe cause it shares a platform with the flex? also, what’s going on with those tail lights?
the chrysler 300 is still by far a better looking sedan, with a better ride and drive.. unfortunately ford has messed up again, just like that did with the 500 and Taurus large sedan before this. Look past the trendy interior and the Chrysler LX’s are far superior.
This is a handsome car, but I’d never buy anything called Taurus. Ford ruined that name forever.
Looks like a home run for Ford. Their designers are doing a good job with original designs which is what has been so successful for them in the past.
Very nice. Now it is time to make it less ponderous and for the entire line up get rid of the cheap looking blue Logo.
very nice, not cartoonish like chryco 300. classy , statley , elegant. Although they shoud be chastised for taking us for fools when they renamed the ford 500 to Taurus, for shame. we are not that stupid.
I always love people who say things like, “it’s a nice car, but I wouldn’t buy it because it’s a Taurus.” Yes please – don’t let logic get in the way of your car-buying decisions. It’s either a good car or it isn’t. Don’t be one of those peckerheads who refuses to buy American cars, even if they’re better than their competition. That’s not even reasonable.
ok this is much better than I thought. As long as they price this right ( and the economy rebounds), they will sell a ton of these.
I like the front and I’m glad to see they got rid of the “razorblade” grill they’ve had the past few years. The rear is ugly, however, as is the shifter.
Wow! They finally used something from the interceptor concept…..the rear!!!! -ish
Stunning, So many design cue’s ahead of the competition I won’t even list them.
Too bad it’s NOT an Import, then everyone would love it, for that reason alone.

Here’s why I said it, you ignorant dickhead. My father had an 87 Taurus wagon. It was one of the worst cars he ever owned. The paint rotted off, the back seat folded down and wouldn’t raise again until the dealer disassembled it, the luggage rack came off while going down the road, the air conditioning failed at 15k miles, screws and trim pieces fell off regularly, the left tail light came out on its own, the power windows stopped at around 22k miles, and then it just died on my mother in rush hour traffic. I won’t even begin to discuss the pathetic 1983 LTD. My family never bought a Ford again.
There’s a little bit of everything in this car. Ford’s on a roll. Let’s hope that the economy will allow people to buy this car in large numbers.
I do wonder how well this car drives…the old FORD stigmata.

Interesting. I had an 88 Taurus hand-me-down from my parents that went for over 210,000 miles and never failed me. Except for a problematic air conditioner compressor that was repaired at around 80k and then finally froze for good at around 150k. The passenger window failed because my college roommate was drunk and hung on it and damaged the gears. It was totally battered, but it kept going until I gave it to the neighbor’s kid in 01. At the time I hated it because it was a wagon, and because I wanted a VW GTI. But the Taurus was a really good car in hindsight. If your roof rack and tail lamp fell off, that sounds like neglect or possibly bad repairwork. Things just don’t “fall off” without warning on any car unless you ignore routine maintenance. Well, maybe they do on British cars. I had a Triumph too.
After growing up with mostly American cars (and two Volvo 240s) domestic cars just don’t appeal to me. But this new Taurus looks amazing. Or maybe I’m just getting old, because I also really like the new LaCrosse pictures I’ve been seeing.
It no longer looks rental fleet…Now who will buy it?
i dont get why they didnt just bring the chinese wheelbased mondeo a long time ago. much better lookin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If your roof rack and tail lamp fell off, that sounds like neglect or possibly bad repairwork. Things just don’t “fall off” without warning on any car unless you ignore routine maintenance.
Grow up. We’re all happy you had a good relationship with a Taurus, but your critique of my dad’s experience is uninformed and, quite frankly, utter bullsh*t.
I like the new design of the Taurus, but I just don’t get the love of the name. Did Ford hope to resurrect sales of old, or is it a nod to cretins who think it was a good car worth buying again?
Regardless, I hope it sells well because domestic manufacturers need all the help they can get.
Maybe you’re they’re only hope.
Vince, If you look real close, the rear end and the tailights look like they come right off of a 1969 Fairlane 500. It sort of gives this new Taurus a Ford ‘Retro’look that just might catch on! It would be great to see a couple of pictures of the old Fairlane or Falcon to compare it to.
how are those with pacemakers supposed to have those “push to start” buttons are actually wireless radiation from a key in the pocket.?? Those out there with pacemakers can’t be near it. Does Ford actually has a version of the Taurus available without that push to start feature? If not, looks like Ford screwed up again, since it’s mostly older people who are supporting ford.
So does Ford have a non-push to start Taurus? Otherwise they screwed up, lots of older people have pacemakers!
They can tweek this thing a million times and still nobody will buy it.

You are an absolute idiot.
So you have driven the 2010 Taurus already? You know how the materials are and how well it performs? That is GREAT because no one else does expect for the Ford engineering team and possibly a few others inside of the company.
The 300 is a terrible vehicle. You tell me what is so good about it other than the drivetrain and Mercedes sourced chassis when equipped with the Hemi.

Let me guess, you drive a BMW now or something?
My best friend also had an “88 hand me down Taurus that went for over 230,000 miles and we beat the absolute hell out of that car and it never quit. Its demise was a drunk driver who broadsided us traveling at over 40MPH and everyone in the vehicle walked away, injury free.
Don’t be such a d*ck.
Way to go Ford. A big biggie, but very nice overall and great attention to detail from what I can see. Interior has that cheap-plastic sheen though. Rear Maybe a bit roundy? Big, Bold, American.
Why do they bother…people wont buy it regardless how good it is.

Dude, you seem like an ass. You do realize that this is a discussion forum, right? I have to agree with the first guy who says he owned one himself, first-hand. As did I, and I was happy with my Taurus for many years with minimal fuss. Tell your daddy that things just don’t fall off like you described without any hint. Maybe your daddy needs to learn the basics about routine maintenance. Maybe your daddy needs to teach you some manners.
Don’t be such a d*ck.
If your amazing stories of bulletproof reliability, high mileage, and crash-worthiness are actually true, then you have every reason to be as happy as a clam with buying another Taurus.
But don’t insult people by saying that they lack logic in buying a car, or their luggage rack fell off due to neglect or improper maintenance, and then whine when someone calls you on it. That makes you the dick.
