2010 Subaru Legacy

Last Updated:

The all new Legacy seems to be exactly what Subaru doesn’t need: another boring conservative looking sedan that will never stand out from the crowd…

Too bad. Once again, they missed an opportunity to come up with a nice design for what has always been a very good car.

Good luck…

  1. Too bad the general public will think GM copied the Cruze rear end from this, when the Cruze was actually first….just not in the US.

The rear to me looks like the Accord and Cruze had a baby.

  2. I have an ’05. I like mine better than this. It seems more original compared to the previous-previous gen.

I guess the AWD system is the only thing going for this thing now…the Honda Accord from 2003 really seems like light-years ahead of this 2010 model right now.

I e-mailed these to my Subaru dealer.

  3. Wow, that isn’t going to cut it.

It will be popular in the North Eastern states (its biggest market) and with the crunchy granola bunch and that is about it.

This vehicle, aside from AWD, gives the average shopper no benefit to purchasing this over the class leading Accord.

  4. I like this alot more than the concept, and you have to realise that this the base model in the photos. Also, Vince why are you so negative? In these crappy times abit of positivety would be nice…

  5. I’ve always liked the Legacy and think this isn’t too bad. It’s not breathtaking but it’s a decent sedan that is certainly more attractive than any accord/camry, etc.

  6. There are other significant changes to this car. For one, it is now grown in size enough to be able to compete in this segment. And more importantly they finally have a new transmissions. No more four. And lets face it, it’s still better looking than a Camry.

Uhhh I’d rather have an Accord with a V6 over the Legacy any day of the week. Legacy GT might help me change my mind though.

The interior of this Legacy looks awful. I can’t get over all of that silver crap on the dash.

  8. “This vehicle, aside from AWD, gives the average shopper no benefit to purchasing this over the class leading Accord.”

You mean the car you have to spend $30,000 on just to see your mpg and outside temperature? Comes standard with the Legacy, along with tons of other stuff you have to spend a lot more on in the Accord.

  9. at least it doesn’t have the gated automatic transmission shifter, which is common in all subarus…

  10. Wow. This car is ferociously ugly. What a world we live in when Kias and Hyundais are slowly becoming the design leaders! I really feel badly for Subaru.. I so want to like them. I love their innovative powertrains and durability, but this car looks like an extra from The Simpsons Movie.

  11. I’m starting to believe Mr. Burlapp is down with the economy (no offense) but the poster above is right, vince has been all negative lately on almost any car posted. I remember when you used to be more joly Vince. Cheer up! You still have a nice site. 🙂

  12. the rear is very lexus gs.

it also looks like another perfect sized car that has became supersized.

the legacy is always the best looking subaru and this continues that, though when you look at the rest of the range it’s not hard to see how it’s the best looking

  13. Send the Subaru designers to China and let them learn how they design cars. The Legacy will be the first Japanese car that makes Chinese cars look more stylish and unique. Great work Subaru!!! At last, you finally did something before the other car makers!

  14. The Legacy shown here is the American/Canadian version.

The one built in Japan that will be sold elsewhere (like Australia (where it is called Liberty) and Europe) will be different to this version. It will be slightly narrower (which isnt a good thing) and it will have different styling then this one.

This gives us non-Americans a hope that ours may actually look good and hopefully better then the already good looking current one.

My guess is that the interior/engines etc will be the same, just the exterior design will be different.

  15. The new 5 speed automatic transmission has proved a major problem for Subaru, due to the lower configuration of the boxer engine. Inside sources say they had to take shortcuts to make it work. Let’s hope it will not become a reliability issue and tarnish their otherwise stella quality record.

  16. The last thing this car needed to do was grow in size and weight. Sub should have looked to cut weight, not add. Lordy, why don’t they just change the name to Camry.

Temperature gauge is standard on almost all Accords.

Aside from AWD, the Accord has more bang for your buck. More horsepower, better MPG (who cares about the MPG gauge, you will only be disappointed), better resale, more reliable (check CR yourself), I could go on.

I am just countering your point to which you countered from the other guy. You might want to check your facts…

  18. Chinese cars look more “stylish and unique” because they steal such ideas from other car companies designs.

  19. Ok, I get it… Subaru is trying to have a consistent evolutionary look to the Legacy. I dont even mind the front end. But it looks a bit Chevy/Nissan from the side, and more Hyundai (think they were trying for BMW 3 series) at the rear. Ooops! I like Subaru, but I do wish they’d get some competent designers… Note: even a kinda boring outside can be a good selling car. The rest has to be great though: INTERIORS, Subaru! Fire your interior designers and start over. They wont get much help from Toyota there.

  20. There is simply no excuse for a NEW car to be so ugly. There is so much good design out there available at any price. Especially with Subaru’s latest “self-love” ad campaign. I’m embarrassed for all of those tree-hugging, ocean-kayaking, Birkenstock-wearing earth-embracers that will somehow fool themselves into buying this heap. It doesn’t take a design phi beta kappa to figure out that this car is very very poorly done. Shame on you Subaru for uglifying the earth.

Comment of the month right there…

Looks alot better than alot of vehicles designed locally here in the US.”

I don’t agree at all, and I HATE domestic design themes.

The current Malibu or Fusion would blow this out of the water styling wise.

  23. interior is very dodge caliber, way to go subaru. You and toyota make a very heavy anchor.

It looks nothing like a Dodge Caliber, have you even seen the interior of one???

  25. It’s growing on me,
Let’s face it Honda Accord’s exterior looks worse than this, Toyota Camry with her swallen taillights and crapy interior is not any better then Subaru. At list one will be more original driving Legacy in Honda/Toyota crowd.

I hope this is global/ not US only model. Can’t wait to see Outback (that’s what I might end up buying unless they sell Legacy SportWagon in the US).

  26. The new 5 speed automatic is a major problem in my B9 Tribeca. I already have had a governor gear replaced twice since I bought it new back in 2007. Now the transmission slips if you press down hard on the accelerator. This will be my last Subaru.

I find the Accord MUCH more original and attractive than this most recent Legacy.
