Insignia Sport Tourer as Buick in the US???

Why not???

We already know the Insignia sedan is coming to the US as the next Buick Regal. So how about a Regal wagon?
Is that such a crazy idea?
This thing looks great. And it would give Buick something the competition doesn’t have. Plus, it would be different than the smaller Crossover offered by Chevy and GMC, making Buick even more special. More of a car brand.

I say bring this over with the 2.0 Liter Turbo and advertise the hell out of it!
So people know it’s out there. Unlike the good cars Saturn had . The one nobody knew about…

  1. Gotta love those double tailights under the tailgate. Only GM would spend that much time & money on perfecting the Design.

  2. When Saturn brought over the Astra their customers went away. That car scared them off. GM will probably get a wagon to Buick like they did Cadillac.

  3. I could see this doing well. Along with Buick's upcoming new sedans, this would help completely erase Buick's geriatric image. Love the wheels. Very Audi.

  5. Looks good…I don't totally understand the "extra" brakelights inside the cargo area. Maybe they're normal in Europe.

    I still regret not buying a Mazda 6 wagon with 5-speed!

  6. I agree Vince. GM should use the Insignia name in N.A. The Regal brings back memories of lackluster midsize sedans from the 1970's thru to the late 1990's. GM are you listening??? This would be perfect for me to haul my 2 Giant Schnauzers around in.

  7. i love the idea of this car, and it looks great, but cannot see it as a buick. future-buick, with new marketing and ideas, maybe, but buick-as-it-is?

    This is because the entire taillight assembly is in the hatch. When the hatch is open, you can't see the exterior taillights. So, if you're driving around with some 2×4's hanging out the back, the interior taillights will let people behind you see you braking.

  10. I wouldn't mind this at all if they changed the tailgate for the US version…interesting idea with the extra tail lights…but what if the hatch is only halfway open?

    This is the perfect Malibu wagon that will never be!

    OTOH, if you scratch the bumper's top surface when loading or unloading, it will be hidden by the hatch.

  12. This is one fine car. I recently saw some in Switzerland and they were absolutely stunning. After looking at them I thought it would be great to have these in the states. Let's face it, we can't keep buying those whale size SUV forever; need more practical cars like this for people that want hauling capabilities. What the heck ails the american manufacturers thinking that there is no market for these, I beg to differ. I am one that can't get myself to get back into a sedan after years of Volvo wagons (the wagons are so darn practical). I would not hesitate to purchase one of these if they were sold here (after seeing them in Europe). Give me one of these with Ford's SYNC and I would be a happy camper….this ain't gonna happen.

    Who in their right mind would buy a BUICK over a Mercedes. I'll tell you, I am 40 years old and I wouldn't ever consider purchasing a Buick.

    Buick is a brand for old people. Look at how big the display is on the radio from Buicks a few years ago. The digits were almost two inches tall!

    That's a good point, but there is already a black scuff plate to take care of scratches. Just don't back into anything.

  15. Gorgeous wagon! Question: What's the fastest way to finally make me a Buick customer…I'm 36 years old, will be looking at "almost-luxury" cars in 2 years? Answer: Build something like this Regal Wagon and keep the price under $30K.

Now that Toyota is no longer selling Corollas to GM to re-badge & sell as Chevys/Geos/Pontiacs; rumor is that GM will be selling the next generation Buicks to Toyota to rebadge & sell as Lexus's. I hope the Lexus versions are cheaper than the Buick versions (like the GM versions were always priced below their Toyota-branded cousins). It should be interresting!

    I am 26 and I'd never consider purchasing a Buick, no matter how much they fluffed me.

    Caddy is about ready to launch the CTS wagon. This would be redundant. This would make a great chevy, but is probably too hi-end. I agree that this doesn't really make sense as a Buick right now. Buick must reinvent themselves so that it appeals to a younger demographic ( age 30 to 50s and not 50s to death.) It worked very well for Caddy.

After test driving the Mercedes suv & buick's Enclave; I got the one with the better looking dash, the quieter interior, and the smoother ride. And it still pulls 4000lbs. I would have paid CONSIDERBLY MORE for the Buick that the Mercedes. If you disagree, you're probably hung up on the name and that probably prevented you from ACTUALLY DRIVING them BOTH back to back.

    So you work for GM. We get that. Not that I don't agree that I'd rather have the Buick than the Mercedes (for different reasons), but please. That's a bit over the top, dude.

    But I'd rather have this great looking wagon over an Enclave any day.
