2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Last Updated:
Looking a lot like the Dodge Journey. At least from the back.
Sure, the new Grand Cherokee is now more car based.
But shouldn’t it still look more like a Jeep?
Something a bit more special than a Dodge Minivan/Crossover/SUV thing?
Sorry Vince, I'm not seeing it. If you mean white on red taillights, then you're stretching. The new GC rear resembles an X5 more closely.
I'm not seeing it either…at all. I was also going to comment to the X5 resemblance.
yeah I don't see the comparison either.
I never thought that I would live to see the day when Jeep went completely limp and soft and start to produce these so called crossover CUV's instead of the rugged trucks and SUV's that has made this brand what it is for 75 years plus! Vince is absolutely correct when he forsees that the future of Jeep is in jeopardy if they go in this direction like all the other pansey manufacturing flower shops around the world!
i have no idea what pics ur looking at but those rear ends don't look like each other at all.
Maybe overall, but if you look it doesn't. Cover the tailights and I see the Toyota Kluger/Highlander!
I love it!
Hi Vince!!
I hope you're OK.
I'm still really enjoying your blog. It's one of the best – that's for sure.
If you click on the link below you [And everyone else here] can learn a lot more about what to expect with the new Grand Cherokee.

Craig! :o)
The ONLY good thing about the upcoming Grand Cherokee is that it is DIRECTLY based off of the Mercedes M Class.
Aside from that, the Chrysler bits are going to be garbage like they usually are.
Jeep should have rethought about this first. Toyota has the new 4runner and the Lexus GX.
at first i thought it looked EXACTLY like the Journey. then i realized the silver car IS the Journey… i don't see the resemblance either, ttytt. and before we go all rogue on this GC, let's remember the Compass and Patriot, Calibers under the skin. now that's a travesty, this GC will fill it's niche just perfectly.
Thanks for showing this pic vince cause when i first seen the jeep at other blogs all i could think about was the dodge journey !
I would question the current-ness of your prescription. Back to LensCrafters for you!
The Jeep rear-end looks SO MUCH BETTER than the Journey's. And it actually looks muscular and SUV-like.
Vince, I would have to agree. I thought this since day one. You should have included the entire side profiles of both to give others a better understanding.
I actually like the Journey. It's the one thoughtful vehicle in their crossover lineup. But other than the tail lamps being red and the wheels being round, I'm not seeing a big similarity. Jeep needs to focus on three vehicles… the Cherokee, the Wrangler and the Liberty. They all need to be "Trail Rated" and they all have to be authentic.
Put them side by side and the Journey and Cherokee are much less alike than the C-class & S-Class. And about as much alike as the 3- series & 7- series. Both good-looking SUV's; both a definite family resemblence; but each unique in it's own distinct way. I think you'll find that the Journey can easily hold it's own against anything from CRV & Rav4 to the new class leaders (Equinox & Terrain). But the Jeep is in a class all by itself. Based on a distinct combination of Mercedes & Jeep technoligies; with distronic speed control, air suspension, hill discent control, and real wood & leather on the interior (vs the vinyl that comes std. on Mercedes); the Jeep won't be competeing in the Journey's price range.
All CUV thingy's back-end look a lot like the Journey…Geeez.

Have you ever even DRIVEN the Journey??? It is entirely forgetful and the Equinox/Terrain are FAR from the class leaders.
Just the fact that the transmission refuses to downshift and upshifts at the lowest possible RPM murders the driving experience.

What can I say; You out-of-touch and just plain wrong. Apparently bad old habits die hard.
Check MPG; camparitive price / features; styling; Awards won in the most recent model year; etc. etc. etc. And then stand back an just LOOK at them. If you're biggoted against American-Made cars, then just admit it. You just sound stupid when you try to rationalize the irrational.
VInce – youre really reaching here – Have you not seen the actual photos of this car https://www.allpar.com/threads/the-2011-2013-jeep-grand-cherokee.236969/?post_id=1085245382&nested_view=1#post-1085245382) Chrysler has been sucking a lot of wind lately – but they have a winner in this car. A effective, sophisticated interpretation of classic jeep styling and go anywhere capabilities. As you can see from the link, the rear is dead on – exactly what it should be. If they can get through their troubles with sourcing from Daimeler and get this think out, it will be a big winner.
PS – how dare you compare it to the nightmare which is the dodge journey.
