Cruze and Volt

Last Updated:

Together.
The US version of the Cruze will be officially shown next month.

Here is what GM says:

“With expected highway fuel economy up to 40 miles per gallon, Cruze will be extremely gas friendly while the Volt electric vehicle can be operated gas-free,” said Brent Dewar, vice president, Chevrolet. “Chevrolet’s focus is on forward-looking technologies to the benefit of our customers, such as the highly efficient, small-displacement turbocharged engine in the Cruze or the Volt electric vehicle with extended range.”

The Cruze has already launched to high acclaim in Europe and Asia and has undergone refinement for America. It goes on sale in the U.S. in the third quarter of 2010 but has already logged more than 4 million miles in quality and durability testing worldwide, making it one of the most globally tested Chevrolet products prior to a U.S. launch.

Cruze is designed to achieve class-leading highway fuel economy using a new family of efficient engines that include a 1.4L turbo. It will lead the way for Chevrolet in small-displacement, turbocharged engines that are designed for excellent fuel efficiency and durability – while also being fun to drive.

Defying preconceptions of what a compact car can be, Cruze will offer a more spacious interior and cargo capacity than the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, and upscale infotainment amenities such as a navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and XM Satellite Radio. Ten standard air bags that provide a safety cocoon for occupants – along with OnStar– also make it one of the safest vehicles in the segment.”

  1. blah, blah, blah…..put these cars on sale already!!! GM has been talking about these cars for soooooo looooong. It's to the point now where the Cruze is probably obsolete already and the Volt won't be in demand anymore with people leaning towards crossovers. I do hope the Volt does well and can't wait for the fuel-cell version to come out.

  2. Wow, this is AMAZING.

Chevy benchmarked the current Civic which was released in late 2005.

Way to go GM, with the 9th generation Civic to be released around the same time as the Cruze. The Cruze is doomed. It will already be a stale product that brings nothing to the table.

If they had released this TWO years ago, then they could have enjoyed some positive press. 2011 is far too late.

  3. junk is junk, that white haired military geek that ran for president said that these companies will be bankrupt before long.

  4. BFD… I'm so tired of hearing about the Cruze. Release it already. But I don't expect it to be the end-all-be-all of small sedans. So what if it's better than a Corolla? Corollas suck. They've always sucked. People will buy Corollas no matter how much they suck. And people will swear up-and-down that they don't suck. The Civic is several years old, so the Cruze is comparing itself to a lame duck. I have a feeling that the Mazda 3 has already trumped it. Fingers crossed for the Cruze, but I think Chevy is dragging their feet to launch a car that should have been available nine years ago. If it succeeds, it'll be just barely. If it fails, it'll be because it clearly isn't good enough.

  5. Seriously how many times over the years have we heard this??

First it was the "new" Cavalier. . . then the Cobalt. . . now the Cruze.

GM has proved that they CAN'T do it.

And the Volt – Who's gonna pay $40,000 for that??? LOL GM's CRAZY!!!

  6. Well, I sold all my Toyota & Honda stock today. Unfortunately GM is not yet letting the general public buy stock in the new GM yet. I eagerly await with baited breath. This is obviously the future.

  7. how is it possible for them to go out of business when all they need to do is give another lame " we represent america" speech to get free tax money from the government? and before you know it, the government will invest too much money into it that the ppl responsible for handing out the tax dollar will simply refuse to let die no matter what, because if they do so it mean the opposing party will use that as an excuse to attack them during the next campaign ("don't vote for the guy that wasted your tax dollar away for nothing!") . same idea with how the banks kept handing out tax dollar as "bonuses" when the banks are OWING money instead of turning a profit, they will not stop wasting tax dollar on bonuses and nothing will happen to them, cuz they know that if they do go bankrupt after getting loan from the government, then the ppl who approved the loan will be attacked and end their political career.

    I love this persons sarcasm.

  9. Hopefully the new Volt goes and rides better than the Cruze. This car is sold in Europe and after driving it I aked the saleman where the engine is. No power, busy ride, quite noisy but a stiff structure and a pleasing interior as well as a usable trunk. The American version better be better or it will be a flop.

You are obviously on some kind of drugs.

  11. I don't mind the looks of the Cruze. It looks okay. But it's based on Daewoo R&D so I'm sure it'll drive like a coffee can full of marbles. I do find the Volt intriguing tho.

  12. like someone else mentioned, the new Civic is going to be released along side the Cruze. The civic will undoubtedly be much better.

don't forget the current mazda 3 too.

  13. I love this persons sarcasm.

ON THE CONTRARY. Sold all $885,432 of it! -no sarcasm intended!

  14. The 1.4L will have "virtually no turbo lag"…Really…This time we are not lying…We have been lying to you about this for 20 years but, Trust me!

  15. Everyone always talks about turbo lag as a horrendous thing that contributes to people losing control of their vehicles and careening into trees. But is it really so awful? I really like the kick of a turbo. Especially with a manual shift.

    Are you being serious?

I have never heard of such a thing in my life.
