  1. NSU Ro 80 – German rotary engine car with a semi – automatic transmission. Stylingwise it was far ahaed of its time and still looks modern today.

  2. NSU Ro-80.

it wasn't an Audi [yet]. it's styling sure has stood the test of time, right? i remember a dealer on Park Avenue, Manhattan, having a couple of these. i went with my father to see them. they were about $7500 at the time i believe, when you could buy a loaded Mark III for about $6500.

  3. NSU Ro.80 produced between 1967 and 1977. European Car of the Year in 1967. Over 30000 made but I only have seen one until now.

  4. It's an NSU Ro80 with a Wankle, rotary engine–like the Mazda cars from the early '70s.

This ducky knows his cars, right?
    QUACK!

  5. NSU RO-80, one of my all time favourites, designwise. And this was from 1967! Even in the 80ies, half of sedan cars looked dated compared to this….

Too bad it was coupled to Wankel engines which lasted about a full tank. Which didn't mean much given their consumption…..

  6. Handsome? really?
This is just another Euro Clown Car.

A useful opinion by someone from the land that brought us the Pontiac Aztek.

  7. Paul-please don't generalize. i'm an American and i recognize the ground-breaking design of the Ro-80. we all have tasteless and stupid people in our countries. doesn't make us all bad.

  8. Hmmm you guys know your cars or do research well.
Only NSU I remember wad a fastback 2dr and was very rare back then.

  9. these vechiles were amazing when released but six months later had major engine problems forcing 5/6 needing warranty claims therefor sending nsu broke, rumour has it that owners in such an exclusive group instead of waving at each other use to hold fingers up refering to how many engines have been replaced.now a future classic most have had mazda rotarys engine replacement

  10. Styling sure stood the test of time: Ugly-goofy then; Ugly-goofy now. Only saw one once. kind of sticks in your mind though–like seeing a 2-headed pig. Bad styling never comes into style!

  11. Ground-breaking? LOL!!! Grow up.

Coming from someone who uses "LOL" and three exclamation points, we'll surely take seriously your opinion of ground-breaking automotive design.

Do a little research about this car before you spout off for your own amusement. We'd all love to see what you find. Then there can be a real discussion.

  12. TO: November 3, 2009 11:31 AM CAB-FOWARD is when the base of the windshield is DIRECTLY ABOVE the center of the front wheel hub (Like on a Concorde/LHS/Vision/Intrepid) This NSU is no more cab-foward than a 2010 Honda Accord.

Windshields weren't raked as dramatically then as they were in years to come. But cab forward design isn't related to the windshield placement anyway.

Google something every once in a while.
