2013 Mercedes S Class

Last Updated:

Let’s just hope it doesn’t look as horrific as this illustration.

I think the current S class still looks great.

The next model is scheduled to be available as a hybrid only in the US.
I guess that’s what we get for not buying diesels…
And it seems that most US mercedes dealers hate the idea.
Not sure why.
Mercedes already offers the 275hp V6S400 hybrid over here for about $88 000.
Which is about $4000 cheaper than the S550 V8.
(For once, the hybrid model is actually cheaper.)
Hybrids are much more popular than diesels in the US, and Mercedes will have to do something besides selling us the small B Class to meet the new CAFE standards.

  1. MB Stop this nonsense already! You have the new Hyundai mega sedan breathing behind your neck………

  2. That is a really bad illustration, Vince.

Mercedes will never be as overwrought and hideously bulbous as Infiniti.

  3. When the current S550 came out, it resembled a bad Chinese knockoff. The wheel arches still look out of place. The recent updates (and aftermarket enhancements) have lessened the blow of das ugly schtick.

But let's face it: To drive a Mercedes-Benz S-class (as opposed to being driven in an S-class) is nothing but an obtuse show of money.

Here are the base prices before options. Tell me which one you would prefer to be seen driving:

2010 Bentley Flying Spur, Speed: $202,500.
    2010 S65 AMG: $201,150.
    2010 BMW 760Li: $137,000.
    2010 Porsche Panamera Turbo: $132,600.
    2010 Jaguar XJL Supersport: $114,150.
    2010 Lexus LS600hL: $108,800.
    2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG: $85,750.
    2010 BMW M5: $85,700.

The last vehicle is the clear performance winner. The first vehicle is the clear "image" winner.

    See my point?

  4. The S-class on which the Maybach is based was a decent car. (In spite of the Maybach version's hideousness) This current design is a joke (hence the lackluster sales). Your illustration of a future S is an even bigger joke. Overpriced, under-performing, and ugly as crap. No wonder MB is having severe money problems. Apparently selling off Chrysler didn't provide enough cash fast enough to solve the real problems back in Germany. Mabey the merger with Renault will buy them some time.

  5. What is Mercedes and Infinity smokin these days?!? I hate the swoopy uglified designs coming from these guys. I'm glad companies like Audi and Lexus are keeping it elegant.

  6. Infiniti does it right , mercedes is lost. Now That Daimler, Nissan and Renault are collaborating ( A Great Thing), Maybe Nissan can help with these designs.
