Coming up: Ford Taurus test drive

Last Updated:

I will be driving this Taurus for the week.
If you have any questions.

So far, it does look really great in person…

  1. I agree, I think the new Taurus looks fantastic. It has a lot of presence on the road. Ford is really on a roll now!

  2. the sharp angle/straight line of the c pillar doesn't go with the rest of the car – unfortunately. the front end is dead on though.

  3. I sat in one of these at the New York car show. Pretty unbelievable how nice it was. They look good on the road too. $40k for a loaded one is a major psychological barrier to overcome for a Taurus though. From what I've seen, it's worth it. But still.

  4. in your review, can you tell us how this compares to a 2011 Toyota Avalon? That is assuming that you have had a chance to drive the new Avalon. From the specs it seems the Avalon is bigger inside.

  5. I really wanted the Taurus to do well and be a big seller, but I'm afraid that it's way too heavy and overpriced.

  6. Vince, I think you are really going to like it.

My uncle just picked one up and it is a really sweet ride. It isn't overly sporty, but it isn't meant to be. It is a FANTASTIC highway car and has a ton of room with killer seats.

  7. Have not driven the current Avalon, but this is no Avalon.
    Much sportier.
So far it drives great. Feels very solid.
I agree about the color too.
The Sync isn't as intuitive as I thought.

Can't wait for the week end to really drive it.

  8. Well equiped – these things start @ $29K…people griping about that value should kick themselves. Plus – I'd be shocked if it isn't #1 or #2 for sales in its category (large cars).

I think the red or black are the best colours on this one…shocking white is nice as well

  9. I heard it's not as roomy as you'd expect (front and back), despite its size. Is that true? How does the base V6 feel in that large of a vehicle? How are the seats after a long drive? How are the interior materials? How is the steering feel?

  10. So far:

    -Seats are excellent
    -V6 is great
-You're right about the car not being as roomy as it seems, but the front is fine
-Materials are great for the most parts, but still some cheap plastics here and there with visible seams.
    -City mileage seems very good
    -Sync needs work

  11. Vince,

How is the outward visibility? I hear the side/front visibility is obscured by the bulk of the vehicle.

Additionally, how is the rear visiblity- do the rear head rests fold down, and is there a blind spot along the sloping C-pillar roof?

  12. I've been seeing a lot more of the new taurus lately…and every time I spot one, it catches my eye. My friend even commented "is that really a ford?" when she passed one the other day. I hope they sell more of these in the coming year

  13. Hey Vince, just a quick tip.

Read the quick users guide for Sync and play around with it in the car for about 15 minutes in the parking lot.

It is kinda confusing at first, but after you get the hang of it, it is awesome. I had Sync on a few rental cars and I think it is an incredible system!

Glad you guys like the color – SteelBlue was my idea 😀
    …of course I meant it to be a Mercury exclusive but . . .

  15. Of course the Avalon will more than likely come off second best as the current model has been in production since approx 2005.
However it is still getting good reports in various car magazines.

  16. How do you think this matches up against the rest of the full-size arena (Charger, 300, Impala, Avalon, Maxima, Azera, Genesis..fairly large field, isn't it?)

  17. Hey Vince, how is the night time Visibility? I'm disappointed that fog lamps aren't available, yet the previous model had them standard. The LED strips seems useless outside of the Ooo Ahh factor for others in traffic.

  18. Night visibility seems very good.
LED re just for show, but they do look great.
    The car I am driving is $32 000. Not $40 000.
(Pretty much loaded except for GPS and Sunroof.)
