2011 VW New Mid Sized sedan

Still just an illustration.
But it seems a good bet, considering spy shots and the official sketch from VW.

I guess they won’t try anything new. Maybe try to attract the masses with a subtle classy design.
It might just work…

I believe that VW makes a quality product, with the exception of some of the electrical gremlins they've built into some of their cars in the past….But to me, this illustration looks like a step backwards……for the likes of Hyundai! The side looks good but the front looks like a variation of the Azera, only worse! I don't understand it! Their marketing peeps obviosly know something that I dont. Boring sedans, minivans and monsterous suv's sell like hotcakes here in the USA. Everything else seems to be like a niche vehicle or something! I dont know….it seems to me that the more boring a sedan looks, the better it's chances of getting sold here. I guess the more stylish you make a vehicle, the more you isolate a particular group of potential customers.

  5. VW should concentrate on what made it a success in the past: good cars at a reasonable price. They should bring the prices in line with Honda/Toyota and let Audi concentrate on the higher end. Also bring over the Skoda Yeti as a VW.

  6. Looks good and classy, but what do I see around the rear-side-window/C-pillar joint? A plastic filler AND a quarter window? Bad! Bad! The sketch has a much better treatment.

    First the completely anonymous 2011 Jetta/Golf, and now this Passat replacement.

    With the notable exception of those who'll buy anything VW/German for personal reasons, who could look at/drive the 2011 Hyundai Sonata and then choose this Bland-Mobile replete with decade old Audi styling left-overs.

    Probably Not Many.

  10. saw a whole bunch of these a couple weeks ago while at the St. Regis in San Francisco..they were doing a press drive in Northern California…the car is very boring in person…about the size of a Ford Fusion but even more dull..it may sell on price but definitely not on it's looks.

  12. So I have a question. Why is it that the only groundbreaking or none boring VW is the CC and the rest looks so plain?

  15. We should give VW credit. They improved the look of the ugly Accord. If they can also achieve Honda reliability, they may have something.

  16. Oh Oh, VW asleep again, what a mess, but still much prettier than that kia sonata nightmare. Driving that kia is like wearing wal mart knock off clothing instead of the real deal……haha!

  17. Still chasing Honda & Toyota in a world where Chevy Malibu, Ford Focus, & Hyundai Sonata are setting the benchmarks… I just don't think it's good ENOUGH.
