Mazda CX-30

Last Updated:

Just a new picture of the new Mazda CX-30 in blue. Not the metallic red we saw everywhere a few weeks ago.

While it does look fine, the black plastic trim is getting really, really thick.
Which makes the car look a bit cartoony. And maybe “cheap”.

The next CX-3 is supposed to be growing a bit and also be based on the new Mazda 3 platform (Current one is based on the Mazda 2) so the “small Mazda SUV” segment will be very crowded next year…

  1. Almost half of the car is that unpainted cheap black plastic. Mazda is on crack. I have a feeling they are going under soon again and return to Ford.

  2. I think the reporting on the CX-3 growing is probably incorrect, now that the CX-30 has arrived. Mazda's statements about that were probably veiled and actually referring to the CX-30. I'd wager the next CX-3 remains based on the 2 and doesn't grow much; otherwise they're just going to be making it the same size as the CX-30 which makes no sense.

I also hope Mazda rethinks this naming scheme. The next CX-3 should be renamed the CX-2…then the CX-30 could be renamed CX-3. Then they'll have CX-2, CX-3, CX-4 (China), CX-5, CX-8 (China) CX-9. No doubt we'll see something above the CX-5 to compete with the Passport, Blazer, Edge, etc. so sooner or later we'll see a new CX-7 as well.

  3. I'm starting to wonder if the CX-30 is just going to be the overclad, "rugged" version of the upcoming, more car-like CX-3.. and then future, more SUV-like versions of the CX-5 and CX-9 will follow as the CX-50 and CX-90.. sort of how Ford seems to be planning to make carlike and SUVlike crossovers for each platform? Otherwise, the zero-added name makes ZERO sense.

  4. I like it better in blue, but I'm going to have to see this one in person before I decide if I like it or not. All that plastic around the wheel arches and on the lower body is giving me major AMC Eagle vibes.
