Honda Insight: dead after 2022…

Last Updated:

This comes as absolutely no surprise. As the current Insight was just a bad marketing idea from the start.
Instead of offering a Hybrid version of the previous generation Civic, Honda had decided to re-invent the Insight as a conservative-looking sedan between the Civic and Accord.
The result was, of course,  never a success with less than 19 500 sold last year.
I’m not saying the Insight was a bad car. I had the opportunity to test drive one for a whole week a few years ago and really liked it. And it got amazing gas mileage. But for most people, it just wasn’t worth the big premium over the Civic.
Now Honda has announced it will be replaced by a new Civic Hybrid for the 2023 model year. As it should have been years ago.
The Hybrid version will probably be a small premium over the regular Civic. (Honda changes only about $1200 more for eh Accord Hybrid over the regular model)
The main question is what body style they will be selling in the US. Sedan or hatchback.
They just introduced the Hybrid Hatchback in Europe. While other Asian countries are getting the sedan version.
I am afraid Honda will be once again very conservative in the US and only offer the sedan over here.
Or not???
Either way, both versions sold overseas are powered by a 181HP hybrid version of the smooth 2.0 Liter engine. Which is very close to what the Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid are using. (The current Insight uses a 1.5 Liter engine)
