Mazda CX-90: US pricing and specs…
It looks like Mazda’s planned “move upmarket” will have to wait. As the all-new 2024 CX-90 starts at less than $1000 more than the good old CX-9. AWD is standard in both. But the new CX-90 comes with a standard 3.3 Inline 6 Cylinder Turbo with 340HP. Not only that is much more than the CX-9’s 2.5 Liter with 227HP, but the new engine is probably 100 times more refined. (An inline 6!) A 6-cylinder option on the old CX-9 would have cost more.
Yes, a base Nissan Pathfinder AWD is still cheaper at $36 500. And so is the Kia Telluride. But most of the Mazda’s competition is actually more. Especially if you factor in the CX-90’s superior interior design and quality. Which has been compared by reviewers to much more expensive brands like BMW and Mercedes.
While the basic 2023 Honda Pilot starts at around the same price as the CX-90, its interior alone is just not comparable. The Mazda seems to be closer to an Acura MDX. Which starts at $50 000.
I think Mazda-s pricing is pretty much perfect. Just on the high end of nonluxury brands. And much cheaper than higher-end models. While offering a true luxury car interior and what probably is one of the smoothest engines around.
If only they could have designed a modern front end. Something a bit less garish. That grille is just horrible…

I personally think the CX-90 is priced a little steep at the upper trim level, but only time will tell if this is an appropriate move by Mazda. The base CX-90 doesn’t have a 340hp engine, but a detuned 280hp version. It’s still the I-6 though. The 340hp starts in the “Turbo S,” trim levels.
Any word on if any of the trims will get 4-way lumbar for the driver? I just cannot buy a car that doesn’t include this feature.
A very specific request from Mr.Dude.
That’s fantastic!! It is a beautiful looking car, great sheet metal and love how upmarket it looks from the side especially. With this kind of quality inside and out I would 100% consider it if in the market.
The base trims only get like 280 hp out of the inline-6, though. You have to spend more to get over 300.
