Honda Civic.

We will see the 2025 Honda Civic very soon. It will be a mid-cycle refresh of the current generation, with a revised front end, and let’s hope, a revised interior as well.
The big news will be the availability of a hybrid powertrain. Just like in the Accord, it will probably be standard on a few models, including the Touring. Only the base model could retain the 2.0 Liter engine. I think the Hybrid versions will end up replacing the 1.5 Liter Turbo just like Honda replaced the 2.0 Liter Turbo with the Hybrid on the new Accord.
That means a new generation will probably appear in a couple of years, and it will probably go beyond just offering a regular hybrid on some versions. Although Honda hasn’t offered a PHEV powertrain in the US since canceling the Clarity, in two years, a regular hybrid only might not be enough.
The next Civic could even be offered as an EV. As it is right now, a Tesla Model 3 after local incentives is about the same price as a loaded Civic Touring. And cheaper than the Honda if it qualifies again for the federal incentives. No matter what, the Tesla is also better equipped with heated and cooling seats, a glass roof, and more.
I really think the next Civic should only offer a hybrid on the more basic versions, with an EV powertrain standard on the more expensive models. We are talking about a 2027 model coming out in 2026, and by then, all new EVs will be compatible with Tesla’s NACS charging network. And EVs will be cheaper to manufacture. In just 2 or 3 years, it will be a different world and a different market.
Let’s hope the Civic isn’t left behind…
