Lynk & Co Z20.
Last Updated:
There is another nightmare for Tesla on the horizon. It is called the Z20 from Lynk & Co.
While the small compact Tesla model is rumored to have been canceled a few months ago, Elon Musk has claimed this was a lie. apparently, they are still working on a smaller car. If that is the case, it will have serious competition by the time it finally reaches customers, which could be next year or 5 or 6 years from now.
Europe will have a couple of smaller ID models from VW. Renault already has the really cool new Renault 5 EV, with an even smaller model coming as well. And Stellantis is already offering small EVs through all their European brands. No one seems to be waiting for Tesla.
Especially in China where there are already a bunch of popular small EVs on sale. We will soon be able to add this all-new Lynk & Co Z20 compact. So far it seems really well designed and a bit reminiscent of the current Mazda 3 hatchback. The Chinese brand is part of the giant Geely group just like Volvo. A few of their models have already been available for sale in many European countries for a few years. This new 02 model will be unveiled in Europe in October and in China a few weeks later. This shows you how much the brand is focused on the European market.
The new Lynk & Co Z20 is quite compact at 10 inches shorter than a Tesla Model 3. Or just a few inches longer than a VW Golf. Which would probably be around the size of a possible smaller Tesla.
While Lynk & Co has already been established in Europe for years, they are not sold in the US. With current tariffs on Chinese-made cars, that will not change anytime soon.
Parent company Geelly is currently actively looking for a new factory site in Europe. This new EV compact would be an obvious choice for the local market with a huge sales potential.
I’m confused by the “strategy” (or lack thereof) of these Geely brands. I thought Zeekr was the electric equivalent of Lynk&Co, and now they’re pulling a confusing Volvo/Polestar? I don’t get it (nor do I much care for the electric fad anyway)
Electric Fad??
Hilarious!
electric car sales are slowing down and many, if not most car companies are slowing down their electrification plans. Hilarious, I know.
