Tesla Model Y.
Last Updated:
We already know Tesla will refresh the Model Y. Which has been their best seller for years and was the world’s most popular car in 2023.
We now have a rumor of production starting in just a few weeks in China. As far as we know, the 2025 Model Y will be getting the same changes the Model 3 received last year. Which includes a smoother, quieter ride. As well as a redesigned interior. There have also been talks about a larger battery being available, at least in China.
There is also a rumor about a longer wheelbase version of the Model Y with 3 rows of seats. This is different from the 3rd-row option Tesla has been offering as a $3000 option. That setup has literally close to zero legroom for the 3rd row. What they are talking about now is a longer version of the car with a 3rd row that can actually accommodate 2 more humans. While the 2nd row becomes a 2-seat captain chair set up. Something similar to what the larger Model X currently offers. that means you would only gain one seat in total which doesn’t make much sense.
However, that option could, at first, be limited to the Chinese market.
It does make sense for Tesla to offer more Model Y variants in China since the Model Y is a much more popular model over there than the referred Model 3. With almost 420,000 units sold so far this year in China. Vs around 156,000 units of the Model 3. The Model Y is also the main target of the many local manufacturers who are constantly introducing new EVs. Many of them are better looking, with better specs, and cheaper than the Tesla Model Y.
While we might not see the new 3-row Model Y over here, at least at first, the revised 5-seater version should be available soon.
