We saw the Kia EV4 concept in late 2023, at the same time as the EV3 concept. While the Kia EV3 has been out for a few months overseas, today we get to see the final production version of the EV4.
And just like the concept, it is, as they say, not for everyone…
I personally like it. I think it’s great to see a mainstream car manufacturer like Kia pushing the envelope. But I’m afraid the rear end of the car could look quite “heavy” and overdone in person. That super sleek fastback design should also be a proper hatch. This is as ridiculous as the Hyundai Ioniq 6 sedan. Where the trunk opening is so shallow it’s really hard to fit anything in there. This is just ridiculous.
While all Kia EVs use the same platforms as Hyundai models, they do look very different. Kia has been able in just 2 years to establish a very unique design language common to all their new models.
I guess the EV4 must be about the size of the Ioniq6. Or maybe a bit shorter.

Kia also released official photos of the hatchback version. Which looks like a wagon version of the sedan. With, in my humble and unprofessional opinion, looks much better than the sedan.
Everything past the B-pillar has obviously been redesigned. And the whole thing looks much cleaner than on the sedan. And also, not as weird.
it seems a new Kia trend. Something they also did with the new Kia K4 compact sedan. It is also a fastback model without a proper hatch. But a hatchback version will soon be available. And it also looks like a wagon. And again, probably better than the sedan.
No word yet about when, or even if, the new EV4 will be available in the US. VW has already canceled their ID.7 sedan for our market. And Kia has recently decided to sell the EV5 SUV in Canada, but not in the US. It seems the EV3 has also been pushed back a bit for our market. Early rumors pointed at a late 2024 production start in Mexico. Now I hear it might not come over here before 2026. Which would be a shame. It also would give plenty of time for Kia to actually cancel the whole thing for the eUS market…
Let’s hope not. And let’s hope we get the EV4 as well. Especially the hatchback. A really cool practical EV like this for under $40,000 would have no problem finding an audience.
On another subject, I also noticed how all these EVs have color-coordinated door handles. Nothing most people would pay attention to since it is expected. However, it is something Tesla is still not doing with the Model 3 and Model Y…
The hatchback isn’t bad, but the sedan is just another Kia mess. No cohesive design, just a bunch of random shapes and lines thrown together that don’t make sense. Hard pass. But at this point we need anything as a Tesla alternative
What’s with hatches always having to be proper? I’d like to see a car with an improper hatch. Maybe hinge it at the rear, sort of a suicide hatch. Propriety is overrated.
We absolutely need real Tesla challengers. If priced well, this might take some, but I agree its a bit too weird. What’s really needed is someone to really hit at the heart of Tesla’s designs with something that is more modern mainstream. And clearly, its not coming from Honda with that 0Series mess.
An ass only a mother could love
The rear lights and trunk of the hatch design remind me of Cadillac. The EV4 might hurt the EV6 sales in my opinion as you get an AWD hatch for less money. The EV3 makes a lot more sense than the EV4.
I like the sedan we need more options on the lower end 👏🏼
Looks like a fender-bender nightmare!!
