Chery Journeo Concept.

Last Updated:

The new Journeo van from Chery is a concept. Not a production car like the new Kia PV5.

And it is not an EV but a Hybrid using a 2.0 Liter engine. Chery might be 28 years old, and not one of these cool Chinese start-up companies, but it still sold over 2.6 million cars last year alone. The Journeo van was designed at their design center in Germany.

This is a very big company that is selling cars in many countries around the world. This van concept from late last year is a showcase for what they could do. And even probably not far from an actual production model.

There is probably a market for an off-road van in the US. However, it looks like anything from Chery or directly from any other Chinese manufacturer will have to wait a bit longer to enter our market.

One off-road van we might actually see here is the upcoming production version of the Mitsubishi D:X Concept. That concept had a PHEV powertrain and 6 seats.

The concept is rumored to be a preview of Mitsubishi’s next-generation Delica van. Which would be great news for Mitsubishi’s very small current lineup.

However, they are now entangled in the off/on Honda/Nissan possible merger/acquisition. Something that will probably not happen, but who knows? Mitsubishi needs to stay focused on developing new models and a PHEV Delica would be great news.

As for that super cool Chery van, our only hope is to see it through some kind of partnership. Decades ago, they had signed a contract with Chrysler to provide the US brand with a badly needed small car. that never happened. However, they did build engines for Fiat that ended up in the US.

The cool Chry Journeo does remind me a bit of these fantastic futuristic vans the great Syd Mead used to illustrate. many decades ago…
