Mercedes future.

Last Updated:

Mercedes just had a few announcements about their future lineup. Most of them as so far pretty vague.

It’s obvious they are trying to move away from their current EV design language as fast as they can. With horrible sales numbers so far. Various big words and hyperbolic statements were used. Among them:

. “We will build the world’s most desirable cars”. Which is something they should have done all along.

. “The epitome of a status-oriented business sedan”. That sounds like “Status” is what matters the most. Not quality or design.

It seems Mercedes is not out to make the best cars anymore. Just the ones people want the most. I guess that’s what will bring the money.

This new E-Class EV will probably replace the current EQE as soon as possible. From that teaser, is just looks like an E-Class. But that speech about “Status oriented wheelbase” seems like a different EV platform. Again, “status”. As “it needs to show off”.

A GLC EV is a no-brainer. Since they already introduced the EQC back in 2019. However, the EQC was a commercial failure and ended production in 2023.

For some reason, this upcoming GLC EV looks a lot (I mean a lot) like that discontinued EQC EV. Which makes zero sense and could amount to trying the same failed thing again. Why?

The one that will please Mercedes suits the most is the upcoming “Mini-G-Class” many have been talking about for years. A much smaller off-road machine that will be another cash cow for the company.

The current G-Class starts at a shocking $148,000 in the US. that means the baby one will probably still be around $100, 000. At these insane prices, you know these are bringing huge amounts of money for the company.

As far as the general design language for Mercedes, they will of course try to make their upcoming EVs look as close as they ICE models, even when based on different platforms. The second image seems to indicate a return to a classic more upright front grille. However, the top image shows something quite different.

Basically, who knows…
