Mazda EZ-60.
Last Updated:

Just a few days ago, we thought this was going to be called the Mazda CX6-e. It is now officially called the Mazda EZ-60, at least in China. Where it will be sold next to the recently introduced EZ6 sedan. Which is sod in Europe as the Mazda 6e.
As we mentioned earlier, the new EZ-60 is the production version of last year’s Arate concept, with very few changes made to the translation into a production car.
The Arata was a very nice, more modern take on the current Mazda design language. Looking familiar and yet trying very nicely to reinvent and modernize the current Mazda design. In the process, it ended up looking much more modern than the upcoming 2026 CX-5. Which will basically look a lot like the current aging model.
When introduced in China, Mazda mentioned that a production version would be available in 2025 for the local market. The Arata concept was introduced at the same time as Mazda’s new EZ6 EV sedan. Which was developed locally with Changan.
The new EV is rumored to be based on a Chinese Changan model called the S7. Which has a different design but very similar proportions. It is exactly what Mazda has done with the EZ6 sedan, which is already based on a Changan sedan.
While first introduced as a Chinese market only model, the EZ6 EV sedan is actually going on sale in Europe, where it has already been introduced as the new Mazda 6e. The prototype pictured above was caught in Germany. That means the new EZ-60 is going on sale in Europe pretty soon. Where it will become Mazda’s 2nd new EV in just about a year.
Mazda’s previous EV plans for the US included a brand new electric SUV. It seems things have changed a bit, and their main priority is currently the all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 hybrid.
The EZ-60 will be about the same size as the Tesla Model Y, which will be great timing for Mazda in Europe, as Tesla’s popularity over there is in a free fall.
While the new EX-60 will not make it to the US market, Mazda is working on another EV for North America based on an all-new in-house developed platform. Let’s hope it looks as modern as the new EZ-60…
