Cadillac’s new EV sedans.

Last Updated:

We first heard the rumor early last year. Cadillac was working on 2 new EV sedans based on an updated version of the current Ultium platform. They would, of course, replace the old CT4 and CT5 sedans.

I have driven multiple versions of the CT4 and CT5 over the years, and while they are nice cars, they don’t really have any Cadillac DNA. At least in my uninformed and un professional opinion.

More recently, Cadillac has announced there will be no ICE replacement for the CT4 and CT5. Which is no surprise since they are on their way to becoming an EV-only brand. No matter how decent they are, I don’t think the aging CT4 and CT5 will not be missed by many. I think Cadillac needs to offer some quiet and smooth sedans. Which is exactly what the CT4 and CT5 are not. The ride is OK and their engines aren’t the quietest. The EV powertrain will surely fix that.

The new sedans will not only replace the CT4 and CT5, but the largest one will be larger than the current CT5. And could actually be seen as a new CT6 by many.

Replacing the CT5 with a new roomier EV would help Cadillac compete against Mercedes, BMW, and Audi. While the larger EV sedan could go against the Lucid Air and Tesla Model S.

A new large Cadillac sedan would have to impress without being a weirdo like the Celestiq. And it would have to look expensive, unlike the EQS. A very modern interior could still include retro touches and wood. (Maybe a bit too much on the illustration above)

Both would be based on the revised version of the recurrent Ultium platform called BEV3.

New Cadillac sedans are always good news in my book. However, I am sure I’m not the only one who is waiting for a truly modern interpretation of the American Luxury car as an EV. This time, a sedan. Or two…

The illustrations above show what these new electric Cadillac sedans could look like.

  1. Would love to see that for Cadillac. One comment – It does seem that Caddy has been in some ways hampered by the Art&Science design direction, but I’m not sure a full width taillight is the way to update it and still be distinctively Cadillac.

  2. Yes Kenny needs to come out with a nicer four-door sedan that everybody could be excited about. It would be nice to have a two-door Cadillac that would be just as nice as the CT yes that they came out with back in 2013 to 2016 that would be very exciting if they would come out with something a little bit different and I think the public would be very aggressive as far as purchasing those Vehicles just like they do the new SUVs that they came out with thank you so much and have a great and blessed day.

  3. I think the CT5 especially will be missed by quite a few enthusiasts. Specifically in V and BW trim. The lower trim models, not nearly as much, but they are still very stylish vehicles. I think GM is making a big mistake by not offering a hybrid model for the next 4-6 years or so before they release an EV replacement. There are still plenty of folks who simply do not want electric. Especially so for the performance trim. Making it fast is not the same as making it a FUN car and that is exactly what the V and BW trims gave enthusiasts.
