Cadillac de Ville series.
Last Updated:
The “de Ville” name was used by Cadillac from 1949 to 2006. These (previously posted) illustrations above show what a new de Ville series based on GM’s Ultium platform could look like.
In 1949, the de Ville name was used on the Cadillac Series 62, as a specific trim. The first generation Cadillac de Ville appeared in 1959 and was available as a 4 door sedan or a two-door coupe, known as the Sedan de Ville and Coupe de Ville.
Over the next decades, there would be 6 generations of the Coupe and Sedan de Ville. 1993 was the last year for the 2-door model. By that time, sales of the sedan were crushing the coupe. In 1993, only 4700 coupes were sold, Vs. 126,000 sedans. The last time the coupe was more popular than the sedan was in 1977, which was the first year of the 5th generation. The 2-door de ville sold over 138,000 units while the sedan reached around 123,000. After that, the sedan took over.
The 7th and 8th generations were only offered as a sedan. The 2006 DTS was basically a 9th-generation Sedan de Ville.
As mentioned earlier, unlike Lincoln, Cadillac is actually working on two brand-new sedans based on the Ultium platform. We know very little about these except for the obviously different sizes. While the Lincoln Navigator has never really replaced the Town Car and has never been very popular it’s a different story for the Cadillac Escalade.
With almost 42,000 sold last year, it’s actually more popular than it’s ever been. GM will be adding 2 new versions of the Escalade IQ EV very soon., with short and long wheelbase. Which will only add to the Escalade’s success.
We could imagine Lincoln trying to come up with a new Town Car, but the Escalade with its huge profit margin leaves little room for a proper new Cadillac full-size sedan. However, they are still working on one.
The crazy expensive Celestiq is of course in no way a proper replacement for the sedan de Ville. I guess we can still imagine a large Cadillac Luxury sedan priced far under $100,000, with a coupe and convertible counterpart.
Something that might only be possible in our dreams, or in the Twilight Zone…
Excellent, bring back the names and swag Cadillac, and rename the Celtiq

When did this become Vince’s fantasy car page? Nearly every post is about what a revived Cadillac or Lincoln could look like. Stick to reality, bub
