With a brand new Toyota Corolla on its way, a redesigned Corolla Cross SUV might not be that far behind.
The current Corolla Cross came out in the US for the 2022 model year, however, it has been around since 2020 in other markets. It is based on the current generation Toyota Corolla, which was introduced in 2018. In some markets, the Corolla Cross got a redesigned front end last year, but somehow, not in the US.
Maybe, Toyota will give the Corolla Cross a bit more style the next time around. Anything would help, and would be an improvement over what we have today.
Toyota sold over 93,000 of them in the US last year. Up from 64,000 in 2023. That is pretty good even if you compare it to the Honda H-RV. Although the Honda is still the champ with over 138,000 sold last year. The HR-V only offers a 2.0 Liter engine with no Hybrid option (yet). A refreshed HR-V is due out in a few months for the 2026 model year.
The Toyota Corolla Cross is probably a fine car. It just needs to be a bit more desirable. Nothing a more modern and attractive design can’t fix.
Just like the next-generation Corolla sedan and hatchback, the Cross SUV is expected to be powered by Toyota’s all-new 1.5 Liter engine. Depending on various markets, that engine will also be available in a more powerful turbo version, or part of a Hybrid powertrain.
