Next Toyota Camry.
Last Updated:

With a “new” Toyota Camry out just about a year ago, a next generation is not expected for another few years. However, the current generation is just a heavy facelift of the 2017 model, with a new front and rear end. As well as a redesigned interior. Otherwise, most of the design is from 2017. With a new Corolla probably coming next year with all-new engines, the current Camry could be aging pretty fast…
Toyota is still officially pushing Hybrids. While behind the scenes, huge amounts are being invested not only in new battery technologies but in all-new, much simpler EV platforms that, combined with cheaper batteries, will eventually allow them to make more profits from EVs than ICE or Hybrid models. Watch Toyota’s stand on EV will magically turn in 2 or 3 years. However, it seems the Camry is not ready to become an EV anytime soon.
The next-generation Corolla is expected to use Toyota’s all-new 1.5-liter engine. In base, Turbo, and hybrid versions. This and a larger 2.0-liter will basically replace almost every single 2.4-liter and 2.5-liter engine Toyota is currently using in most of their lineup. The Camry will not be left behind for long. Either new engines will be offered in the current body in a couple of years. Or we could see an all-new design in 2 to 3 years. Since the current one isn’t truly a new generation anyway.
The standard Camry engine could quickly use the new 1.5-liter hybrid powertrain. A PHEV version of the next-generation Corolla is also a strong rumor, and again, something the Camry might have to offer as well sooner than later.
The illustrations above show what a truly new Camry could look like in 2 or 3 years. Just like the 2026 RAV4, it probably won’t be a visual revolution.
