2026 Volvo XC70.
Last Updated:

Volvo just released a couple of images of a brand new model called the XC-70.
This new XC-70 seems to be the same car we saw a few months ago testing in China. It was then rumored to be called the XE-50, or XC-50.
The images above show the new Volvo XC-70 and its close cousin, the Chinese Link & Co 08. This model came out in 2023. So far, the new XC-70 seems to be Volvo’s version of that model, with a different design. It seems they didn’t just craft a Volvo-style front end to its Geely cousin, but actually put some effort into it and redesigned the whole thing.
Specs for the CX-70 will also probably be very similar. The PHEV Lynk & Co 08 uses a 1.5-liter engine with either one or two electric motors. Its 39.6 kWh battery provides up to 150 miles of EV range in the Chinese test cycle. Which could still be around 120 EPA. So far, for the XC-70, they claim an EV range of up to 200 km. Or 125 miles. Still in the Chinese test cycle. Or about 100 miles EPA. Which would be quite amazing.
This would instantly make the new Volvo a perfect PHEV choice for most families.
Volvo also notes the new model is based on Geely’s SMA platform, which sounds a bit different from the Lynk & Co 08. Since the Volvo gets a better EV range, it could be an updated platform since the 2023 Link & Co launch.
So far, the official word is: “The new XC70 is designed to meet the demand for longer-range plug-in hybrids in China, where it will be available for order later this year. Volvo Cars is exploring potential additional markets at a later stage”.
That means there are few chances to see this over here. Which is really too bad.
Volvo does have the capacity to build this in the US or Europe. And it seems it could be an instant hit in the US. It would also be the closest thing to a new Volvo wagon we’ll see for a long while…
