Ford Mustang wagon.
Last Updated:

Ford has been toying with the idea of a Mustang wagon since the 1960’s. And yet, we have never seen a real wagon version of the Mustang. At least not yet.
The Mach-E is being sold as an SUV, not a wagon. However, with 4 doors and a rear hatch, it is currently the closest thing we have to a Ford Mustang wagon.
Jim Farley mentioned last year that he wanted Fod to become the “Porsche of off-road”. Whatever that means. It could just mean Ford would like to produce grossly overpriced off-road vehicles like Porsche produces overly expensive cars. Mr.Farley also mentioned that Ford might be working on new body styles for the Mustang. Which wouldn’t be a bad idea.
A new sports wagon would be a no-brainer. However, it would still have to be based on the Mustang’s current platform, since that’s the only one Ford has that can accommodate a car. The rest is all trucks.
A wagon would have to have its own body style, and not just be a stretched version of the current Mustang. The current generation is very unpopular and sales of the Mustang have never been as bad as they are today. The Mustang Mach-E is now much more popular than the classic coupe and convertible. And that is probably due to the lame redesign of the current generation which is just a heavy refresh of the previous design. With a terrible interior.
Looks is what sells cars like the Mustang. And the current one is not delivering.
Let’s hope they can think of something before they claim “Americans don’t want cars anymore” and kill the Mustang for good.
Farley is like a clock that is right twice a day…and keeps telling everyone.
