2026 Nissan Elgrand
Last Updated:

Among a sea of Concepts from the Japanese Auto show, it’s almost refreshing to see a real car. A production model that is not a concept or a prototype. This is the all-new Nissan Elgrand Minivan.
Nissan has offered the premium Elgrand Minivan in Japan since 1997. The new one is the 4th generation and will be available in Japan starting next summer.
This time around, the luxurious minivan will be powered by Nissan‘s third-generation e-Power powertrain. Which is said to be quieter and more efficient than previous versions. It will also feature Nissan’s e-4orce electric 4WD system.
While the exterior, especially the front end, does look a bit like a concept car, the Elgrand interior seems a little familiar. It seems to be like a giant, oversized version of the 2026 Nissan Leaf interior. It seems even the row of small plasticky buttons under the center air vents is the same, or at least very similar. Let’s hope they don’t look as cheap as in the Leaf.
The new Elgrand exterior design is obviously based on the Hyper Tourer Concept shown in late 2023. The previous-generation Elgrand came out all the way back in 2010. With facelifts in 2014 and 2020. Still, this was a very, very old model in desperate need of a redesign. With sales numbers down to almost nothing.
These luxury minivans are huge in China and Japan. I do wonder if Nissan has the balls to at least try bringing this to the US. Obviously it won’t sell in massive numbers, but it would make people start talking about Nissan (or Infiniti if it was badged as one) again. Might be an interesting non-traditional halo car for a brand that needs people to start looking at their cars again.
Looks hideous. But new a new minivan in the state side.
