Should Jaguar have second thoughts about the 00 Sedan?

Should the Jaguar brand reconsider their drastic upcoming re-imagining of the brand? The future success of Jaguar will be in the hands of one of the most controversial car designs in history, which is a huge gamble. While the Tesla Cybertruck ended up being a flop (About 20,000 sold a year instead of the “over 250,000” promised), Tesla does have other, much more popular models like the Model Y and Model 3. Jaguar will have nothing else. At least for a while.
The top image shows what a different, yet modern, design direction for a new Jaguar sedan could look like. However, it is really too late. However, they’ve done it before. By canceling the all-new XJ EV sedan that had already been teased to the press, just weeks before its launch in early 2021. Almost 5 years later, nothing new…
The Concept version of the all-new 00 Sedan was revealed almost exactly a year ago, in December 2024. And again, nothing since. Except for a few spy shots of prototypes driving around. Showing that the production version will indeed have 4 doors and a rear hatch. But that’s about it. Its debut has even been pushed back a bit to 2026. Although its base price is still rumored to be around $130,000. Which isn’t that insane these days.
Reactions to the concept have mostly been pretty negative. Which is not good news for Jag. However, it looks like the production car will not look as crazy as the concept. I guess showing the concept over a year early was part of making sure most people get used to the unorthodox shape. Helping the production design to be more acceptable to the masses. Well, at least the few who will actually buy one.
And just like the Cybertruck, it will be something people will notice right away among other cars driving around. Let’s just hope the surprise lasts longer than the Tesla.
