2028 Caadillac Escalade.

GM is now selling an electric version of the Cadillac Escalade. However, at least so far, the regular gas guzzler version of the giant SUV is still the brand’s best seller. With over 41,672 units sold last year. And so far, even more this year. It will be The Escalade’s best year ever! Quite an amazing feast for a generation that was introduced in 2020. I guess redesigning the interior a few months ago to match the Escalade EV did wonders…

Even with the EV being on sale, GM is not ready to say goodbye to the cash cow. The Cadillac Escalade’s huge profit margin is a money-printing machine for the company. As are the Chevrolet and GMC versions. These are still all based on the GMT T1 pickup truck platform.

A next-generation family of Chevrolet and pickup trucks is coming for the 2027 model year. Patent images and prototype spy shots have already been published. That could mean the SUV versions will be about a year behind the pickups, as they usually are.

It also means no big departure and no new recipe. The bodies and interiors will be new, while the rest of these trucks will be quite similar. A new generation of V8 engines is also in the works.

GM sold over 6000 units of the Cadillac IQ EV so far this year. The IQ is a much more expensive car than the gas Escalade, with a starting price of over $147,000. At that price, 6000 units are pretty impressive. These numbers will go up, and by 2028, the IQ could become serious competition to loaded versions of the gas Escalade.

However, even at these prices, the IQ profit margin probably cannot compete against the gas Escalade. One giant SUV that will probably be around for many years to come…
