Next generation Cadillac Deville.

Last Updated:

This illustration above shows what a new large Cadillac sedan based on an updated version of the Ultium platform could look like. We already know Cadillac is working on 2 new sedans based on an updated version of the platform. A more conventional yet modern design than the Celestiq could work very well on a new large Cadillac sedan.

At various times in its long history, the DeVille series was available as a 4-door sedan, a 2-door coupe, and a 2-door convertible. Through many generations, the sedan was produced from 1949 to 2006. The 2-door coupe was dropped by 1993.

Up to 1977, the 2 door Coupe DeVille was often more popular than the sedan. Something hard to imagine these days, when 2-door cars are very rare in general. These large sedans were always pretty popular for Cadillac, with over 100,000 units sold most years. Of course, sales started going down in the early 2000s. And while the CT6 was a better car than the DeVille ever was, sales numbers never went over 10,542 units back in 2017.

Of course, large sedans are far from the most popular things these days, but I really think a new large Cadillac sedan could really work in the EV age. Something costing less than a Mercedes S-Class or BMW i7. And something very different from the crazy expensive $340,000 Cadillac Celestiq. I think there is a market for a $100,000 large modern EV sedan. Something that competes against the Lucid Air and the aging Tesla Model S.

Cadillac has shown sketches of possible future design directions, and they all look good. Let’s hope the upcoming 2 new EV sedans we know they are working on will be a step in the right direction.

At least, it’s wonderful to know they are not just working on SUVs.

  1. First, they said Americans no longer wanted coupes. Then it was station wagons that nobody wanted. Next, the wholesome minivan was out of fashion. And now, it seems, sedans are on the chopping block. Besides the Corvette, the Mustang and the Charger EV the ‘Detroit Three’ have bid adios to the car itself. Shameful. Kudos, though, to Cadillac for keeping the American sedan alive—at least for now. (On a side note: I still can’t believe Lincoln created that beautiful ’17 Continental—after a 15-year hiatus for the nameplate—only to cancel it after just four model years. It’s a shame that Lincoln didn’t keep it in production at least as a halo car. Had Lincoln given the car the promotion it so-well deserved, I’m sure they could have moved about 10,000 a year.)

  2. I love it and then they’re only sell it in China I’m stuck with a crossover XT66 cylinder engine. I wanted to stick with the American car. I hate this car. This is my second XT six like I said I want to buy American. I loved my CT six but unless I was Chinese, I don’t get to drive a new one.

  3. Cadillac should recognize that senior drivers are still living the long hud two door coupe and younger drivers are taking advantage of the Pride of feeling, look at me (I stand out and styling)a cut above the rest with my old school coupe and bigger rims and tires.
Manufactures should give the driver what they want and stop trying to push on them the junk they produce.

  4. We will NEVER get anything decent out of Cadillac or GM in the US, because all they care about anymore is kissing Chinese @$$. Shame on GM and Cadillac! Go ask the Chinese to bail you out next time—don’t use my tax money!

  5. They’re only available in China because they aren’t a real car. This isn’t a real ad. Come on people. If you can’t figure out the internet by now then there’s no hope. And definitely not a v12. There’s a reason why they’re so extremely limited and rightfully so. Do your research

  6. If you would make it I would buy it, but I doubt very seriously it ever gets made, I don’t even know why you tease this stuff.

  7. Loved owning CT6, have an Escalade but I want that DeVille. It would need to be all-wheel drive though. I live in a snowy state. It is beautiful

  8. A GAS powered 4 door sedan would make me very happy. Enough innovation. Just make a damn car to drive and enjoy.

  9. People don’t want EVs Vince. We just rolled back emissions Ev credits going away see how many people want an Ev now. Cadillac it’s in Their best interest to keep the ct5 AND the ct4 to continue to compete against the five series and the three series
