2026 Tesla Model Y.

We finally get to see what that mysterious new, cheaper Tesla will be. And it is just a cheaper Model Y. Just like Musk mentioned on a phone call a couple of days ago. “It’s just a Model Y”… (that should be the tagline for the car’s commercials)

Last year, Tesla revealed a cheaper version of the Model 3 sedan for the Mexican market. It costs the equivalent of around $35,000 and has non-heated cloth seats or a heated steering wheel. These are the main changes, and somehow, the car costs around $4000 less than the regular Model 3.

As you can see from the image on top, the new, cheaper Model Y is going even further. It does have cloth seats. But it is also lacking the glass roof. Which might save quite a bit of money. And also make the Model Y much less original. Tesla could also save money by introducing a smaller battery or a less powerful motor for the Model Y. The current RWD Molde Y costs $45,000 with a range of 357 miles. I wonder how much they could save by offering something with a sub-300-mile range.

There will probably be fewer choices, and the white interior will probably not be part of the menu. Same thing with the optional wheels. It also looks like the rear screen is gone, which was expected. Upfront, it seems the center console has been shrunk down to a minimum. There is now a vast empty space between the cup holders and phone chargers. The whole thing could end up looking much cheaper than the competition. Like a base model Ioniq 5 or ID.4.

Even with a starting price at under $40,000, this will not solve Tesla’s many problems. Millions around the world will now never buy a Tesla because of Musk’s behavior. No matter how cheap they are.

On top of this, the “new” model is still basically a design introduced in 2020. Nothing new at all. It’s like Toyota offering a cheaper version of the current Corolla to boost sales.

Another huge problem is the lack of future models. A site seems Tesla has nothing in the pipeline. And it takes years to engineer and design a new car. Musk mentioned again this out-of-touch idea that most people want a Tesla, and the only thing that prevents sales growth is their price. Someone that out of touch with reality is a grave danger for the company…

Good luck…

  1. It’s really amazing to think how rapidly things are changing these days. Six months ago, Tesla was growing like crazy and seemed unstoppable. Now it is being viewed as a sinking ship. Unbelievable.

  2. This stripped down Model Y will also be useful for robotaxi purposes. Hard plastics, rubber floor, no amenities. The same ambiance as the back of a police car.

Agree with the post. Price is NOT the issue holding back “everyone” from buying a Tesla. Sales of a $30K Tesla will be as dismal as a $50K Tesla.

If I owned a Tesla (fortunately I don’t), I’d trade it before the company goes under and turns every one of them into giant, worthless paperweights.

  3. the comments of an anonymous someone that never owned a tesla and never rode in one and hates musk because he supports free speech and they are regurgitating what they think they are supposed to say/feel/believe are not really important or viable news/ or opinions to report.

  4. So, you know, Tesla doesn’t really care about how many cars they sell. They’re an AI company after all.

  5. You will not get the same experience driving any other ev compared to a Tesla. It reminds me of Apple, their products just work really well and I hate Apple but there’s no denying why it’s so successful. I own a Tesla and it’s easily one of the best cars I’ve ever owned, regardless of Elon’s political stance. It’s crazy to me how out of touch with reality some people are, just because someone is vocal about their opinion that they don’t agree with is making cars they can’t buy them. Makes no sense. Instead they’d rather buy another car they might not enjoy as much from another company and have absolutely no idea what the people in charge there believe in. Stop letting other people dictate your decisions people!
