All-new Toyota model for 2027.

Toyota just released a new teaser for a brand-new model that’s coming very soon. As expected, speculation is already running wild. Many people initially thought it could be a new compact pickup. Something designed to compete directly with the Ford Maverick. Or even a production version of the EPU concept Toyota showed back in 2023. While those ideas aren’t unreasonable, I don’t think that’s what this teaser is showing us. At least, I really hope it isn’t.
Personally, I’m hoping this turns out to be the production version of the Land Cruiser SE concept, which was also revealed in 2023 and still looks fantastic today. Of course, a lot can change in two years, especially when moving from concept to production. But even so, the overall stance seems to be intact. The broad shoulders are still there, arguably even broader than before. And that alone suggests something more substantial than a compact pickup.
Toyota still has two 3 row EV SUVs officially scheduled for the US, despite multiple delays. Both are still coming, and both are expected to be built in the United States. One of them is widely believed to be an electric replacement for the Highlander, while the second remains more of a mystery. That unknown model could very well be where a Land Cruiser EV fits into the lineup.
A new electric Land Cruiser would certainly add to Toyota’s already crowded SUV offerings in the U.S. market. It would likely sit above the RAV4 in size and positioning, but below the Grand Highlander. That said, being an EV carrying the Land Cruiser name would almost certainly be priced higher than the larger Grand Highlander, despite being smaller overall.
Looking at Toyota’s current EV pricing gives us a clue. The new bZ Woodland starts at over $46,000. Which means a larger, more premium three-row electric SUV would probably start north of $50,000. That’s a significant step up, but not unrealistic given today’s market.
Either way, Toyota clearly has a lot of SUVs on its plate. But if one of them turns out to be a bold, electric Land Cruiser, that might just be the most interesting one of the bunch.
And yes, it could still be a small pickup…
