2028 Scout Traveler & Terra video.

Here is a short video I shot a while ago at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Where Scout had quite a display. Showing off their upcoming Terra pickup and Traveler SUV.

They had an old Traveler from the early 1970s there, and you could tell how huge the new ones are when compared to the classic model. Which also had much more personality. Even if Scout/VW designers tried to come up with the right blend of retro design for the new models. I really miss the round headlines on the new ones. Something VW designers seem to hate these days (The ID.Buzz should also have had circular LED lights).

In real life, the new Scout Terra pickup seems really big and quite obnoxious. And the wood trim all over the interior is quite ghastly. While the cloth trim used in the SUV’s interior is much classier.

The Traveler and Terra were revealed in late 2024 as concepts. However, production models aren’t expected to be available until late 2027. Which is still almost 2 years away!

Both trucks will be available as pure EVs or with a range extender engine. The EV will get around 350 miles of range, and the REV will probably reach around 500 miles.

After driving a Nissan Rogue REV in Europe for a few days a while ago, I don’t really see the point of an REV powertrain. It’s basically an EV that uses gas. Something that will probably be seen as a weird, temporary compromise once EVs become more popular than gas cars (which has just happened in Europe).

Scout has, of course, not announced any pricing yet, but the Traveler is expected to start at around $60,000. Which is right where the Jeep Recon is. I saw the Recon in person and really like it. However, the interior of the Scout is of much higher quality. That cool Recon should be cheaper anyway if you ask me…

Watch the video and please tell us if you like the new Scout models.

  1. I also do not understand these range extending EVs. So you carry around a huge EV battery, but then also a seldom used gas engine and gas tank. How is that better or cheaper?
