Should the V8Hemi return in a Chrysler 300 Coupe?

After being canceled, the Hemi V8 was resurrected last year. Not in a Chrysler car, but it is now back on the option list of the Ram 1500 pickup truck. And Stellantis just announced a production number of 100 000 units for the reborn V8 in 2026. There is now a rumor that it will even be available in the Dodge Charger again. On top of the inline 6 Cylinder, which already produces over 550 HP. Which, I guess, is not enough for a few loud Charger fans. And of course, the 630HP just won’t do if you have to have a V8 for some reason.

Many former Chrysler buyers are missing the good old Chrysler 300 sedan. And especially its V8. Which made the big sedan so unique in the marketplace a few years ago. I personally think a new 300 with a choice of powertrain (EV or V8) would be a great way for the Hemi engine to return. A 2-door coupe would also make it even more special than ever. It would be quite a display for the return of the Hemi V8. One that probably wouldn’t sell in big numbers, but one that would put the Chrysler brand back on the map.

So far, all we’ve seen from Chrysler is a few spy shots of the upcoming 2027 Pacifica Minivan. Which is not all-new, but a refresh with a new front end that is trying very hard to shoehorn a few Halcyion concept design cues into the 10-year-old design. There have been talks about anew SUV based on the Jeep Wagoneer S, but nothing concrete has been shown. No concept, no prototype testing around. And even more nebulous talks about a possible new sedan in the future. Either plans are changing every few months, or there are no plans at all…

A new sedan and coupe from Chrysler could easily be based on the Dodge Charger. A “hidden” hatchback similar to the Cherger would also be a great idea. Something that woudl mekthese cars much more practical and maybe even more popular.

One of the main problems at Stellantis in the US right now is pricing.

A $60,000 base Jeep Recon or a $55,000 base Dodge Charger 6 cylinder is just too much! These need to be at least $10,000 less. Otherwise, there would be no room for Chrysler. The Jeep Wagoneer S starts at $62,500. That means a Chrysler version would have to be even more expensive. Effectively killing it as soon as it comes out. And a new Chrysler 300 cannot start at over $60,000 either.

Let’s hope Stellantis can sort it out before they just kill the Chrysler brand…

  1. I honestly think they’d sell fine with a decent V6. Chrysler’s issues are price and reliability more than anything.
