The all-new 2028 Kia Sportage is coming soon.

The current 5th-generation Kia Sportage began production in 2021, which means Kia has been working on a new generation for quite a while now. And we might finally see the new and improved Sportage very soon. The new European Illustration above shows what things might look like.

Like everything these days, the 6th-generation Kia Sportage is expected to get a more angular, squared-off shape. Everyone seems to expect it to look like a smaller Telluride, but that might not be the case. The illustrations above are inspired by recent spy shots of the new SUV, and you can already tell it isn’t simply going to be a smaller Telluride. The headlights were uncovered a few weeks ago and have been incorporated into these illustrations.

Of course, nothing is officially known about the 6th-generation Sportage yet. But it is expected to use the same platform as the new Hyundai Tucson, which is a couple of inches longer than before. And, of course, Kia’s version of Hyundai’s new Pleos infotainment system is expected to be part of the package as well. That means a giant tablet-like screen above the center console, along with a second, thin display behind the steering wheel.

Powertrains will, of course, vary depending on the market. But a similar updated hybrid system to the one being introduced in the new Tucson is expected to be offered here in the US as well. That could give the Sportage a nice boost in both performance and fuel economy.

I sure hope the new Sportage looks more original than the illustrations above. I test-drove the 4th (or 3rd?) generation years ago, and it was a pretty nice car. The 3rd and 4th generations looked quite original too, while the current one is mostly a pretty anonymous design with a giant face.

However, that giant face did replace a really, really weird front-end design. So, I guess things could always be worse.

Let’s hope the new generation does better. Kia has been doing some pretty interesting designs lately, and the new Sportage deserves to have some personality of its own.
