Cadillac Should Bring Back the Eldorado as a Big, Retro Coupe.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that GM is actually working on a new Cadillac Eldorado. However, we will soon see a 2nd-generation Cadillac CT5 sedan, and it probably wouldn’t be that hard to come up with a much more stylish 2-door version.

The next-generation CT5 will once again be offered with a V8 option. It will use a revised version of the current CT5 RWD platform. That could mean a slightly different-looking car, and not something really impressive. Which is what Cadillac really needs besides their current lookalike SUVs.

Why not a cool looking, large, and old-fashioned coupe like an Eldorado?

Like many famous Cadillac models, the Eldorado started life in the 1950s. Back when American luxury cars were insanely large and heavy. But also the envy of car fans all around the world. These were days long before Mercedes or even BMW were popular, especially in the US. Also, these giant chariots were barely getting 10MPG.

The Eldorado started shrinking for its 10th generation in 1979, but still looked great and actually quite imposing.

However, by 1986, the much smaller 11th generation just looked ridiculous. By then, it seems Cadillac in general was quite lost.

Cadillac was working on a new, beautiful coupe a few years ago, which ended up being a concept they somehow only showed years later. Like it, they were ashamed of it. Which is pretty sad.

The gorgeous concept looks like it was meant to be a CT5 coupe. Which would have been very nice. But also probably not that popular…

the illustrations above show what a retro looking new Cadillac Eldorado could look like. A large 2 door car with plenty of chrome. Something people don’t think to want anymore…

  1. Intriguing idea, but I think Cadillac needs to nail making a class competitive sedan first.

I would love to see Cadillac use actual names on all their vehicles, not just the Escalade and electric vehicles.

  2. This is a beautiful design. However, I would extend the wheelbase aft the front wheel opening, to the door, about 6 inches. This would create an even more luxurious and upscale look. GM’s cost-cutting measures, are clearly seen in this design due to our cultural awareness of Cadillac’s past.

  3. The trouble with Cadillac they want to be a race car company, when it’s supposed to be a luxury car.like the one in this article they are. taking about. Cadillac lost it’s way, i hope they find their way back.

  4. Well the back of the car is very much like the back of the 1969 El Dorado. In would like to see the updated version of the CTS…I loved that car..
