Dodge Caravan return for 2028?

I know a revised Chrysler Pacifica is right around the corner. If the Chrysler brand can last that long… But what a bout a new Minivan for the Dodge brand?

Unlike the old Dodge Caravan, it would have to look different from the Chrysler version. And be based on a much newer platform like STLA. Not a Dodge version of the revised Chrysler Pacifica coming soon.

It would also have to be more aggressive than the Chrysler minivan. Something that would fit right in the Dodge showrooms next to the Charger and Durango. Of course, the buzzword these days is “multi powertrains”, and the new Caraven could be offered as a Hybrid, PHEV, or full EV. Making AWD standard could also help give it its own identity compared to the Chrysler model.

Apparently, sales of Minivans in the have been up. With an increase of almost 25% in 2025. You know that means car companies will be looking again at Minivans. The VW ID. Buzz is the newest one introduced and was a flop. So much so that it is skipping the 2026 model year. Returning in 2027 with probably a longer EV range and cheaper price. It didn’t flop because it was a minivan. It was a failure because of that small EV range and outrageous price tag. Something everyone, except VW, had predicted.

Even the old Pacifica keeps increasing its sales numbers almost every year, with over 110,000 sold last year alone. Not bad for a Minivan that started production 10 years ago…

The first generation Dodge Caravan started production in October 1983. With its Chrysler cousin, there was nothing less than an automotive revolution.

Over 5 generations, the Dodge Caravan kept growing. With long wheelbase models added and larger engines too, like various V6s. The Dodge Caravan stopped production for the North American market after the 2020 model year. While a new Chrysler Pacifica was introduced.

However, the name “Caravan” was reintroduced as a cheaper version of the Chrysler Pacifica as the Chrysler Caravan.

I think there could very well be a market for a sportier, AWD minivan in the US. A proper Dodge Caravan with a sportier and more agressive look.

Why not…

  1. @Munjansiur – I was going to say the same thing. Fisker’s designs are good, but don’t make him run a car company.
