2027 Buick Encore GX Spied: Is GM Stretching an Aging SUV Too Far?

While a new Envision is on its way in a bit over a year, it looks like Buick is not ready to give us a new Encore GX.
The 2 new spy photos above show a prototype of a revised Buick Encore GX for the 2027 model year. And obviously doesn’t show a new vehicle. But what seems to be a revised version of the current generation. With the usual redesigned front and rear ends. And probably not much more.
The Encore GX was introduced to the US in late 2019. After all these years, it seems General Motors is trying to modernise the small SUV on the cheap. Unless they decide to offer a new powertrain like a Hybrid or REV. Something they have been offering in the Chinese market for years. (although not on the Encore yet). That would make the Encore a bit more interesting.
I personally think the Encore GX is still a nice-looking small SUV. It still looks good and does have a very modern interior. That was already updated once for the 2024 model year. I’m not really sure what they can improve…
Sales in the US have been quite decent, with over 57,000 units sold in the US alone last year. But 6 years is still a long time in the car business. Buick does need something new. The next-generation Buick Envista will be built in the US after the current Chevrolet Bolt EV runs its course, after just 18 months on the market.
At the same time, competition in this segment is getting tougher every year, with newer designs and electrified options becoming more common. Without a meaningful update under the hood, the Encore GX could start to feel outdated despite its still-attractive styling. A simple facelift may not be enough to keep buyers interested long term, especially as expectations around efficiency and technology continue to rise. Buick has done a good job refining the formula so far, but refinement alone might not be enough anymore.
Let’s hope Buick doesn’t become the next Chrysler in the US…
