The 2028 Honda Accord Already Has a Big Problem

After spending billions in developing new EVs and killing them before they came out, Honda must have scared investors. Especially after mentioning there might be nothing new before 2028. Now they are showing us a future new Hybrid sedan. Which is probably the next generation Honda Accord.
For a while it seemed we would see a brand new Civic next year. It was also scheduled to use a brand new platform with a next generation Hybrid system probably standard. Now Honda is talking about 2028 models. So who knows. I thill think the car above is the next Accord and we might see the next Civic a bit earlier.
“Honda will begin launching models featuring an all-new hybrid system and next-generation platform starting in 2027. The next generation of the award-winning Honda two-motor hybrid system has been improved through advancements such as expanding the range where the engine operates most efficiently and an increase in the driving efficiency of the hybrid unit. In total, Honda will strive to improve the fuel economy of the next-generation hybrid models by more than 10%, while reducing system costs by 30% and further advance a unique Honda driving experience. In addition, a newly developed electric AWD unit will allow highly precise and responsive motor control.” That’s the official word so far.
As fast as as that new sedan goes, it looks a bit disturbing. It’s quite blocky and blunt. At least the brutalist design does look new, but it also looks like one of these cars that could be from anyone. Nothing here says Honda, at all. Why? Honda has quite a few older cool styling cues they could incorporate and create some brand identity. I guess they don’t care about that. They’re OK with the next Accord looking more like a generic Chinese sedan.
the lack of a proper hatchback is also disappointing. And the whole rear end reminds men of the new Lexus ES. Not that great for something that is about 2 years away…
Also, regular Hybrids are far from new tech. Or even that current anymore. No EREV or PHEV seems to be planned. Again, for something that will start life over 2 years from now.
With zero EV on the horizon, I think Honda will have a very tough time once EV sales pick up again. As they eventually will. They already have around the world. I personally predict big trouble ahead for Honda… But what do I know…
