2027 Toyota Avalon Preview.

Yes there is a refresh for the good old Toyota Avalon. And no, it’s not coming back to the US.

The 5th generation was sold over here from 2018 to 2022. A short run for Toyota‘s last big sedan (The Crown doesn’t really count…) And exactly what most sedans had disappeared from our shores.

The car pictured above is the Avalon for the Chinese market. Which is as you can see, still sold over there. It did get a refresh back in 2022, and 2024. That doesn’t seem to be enough and the Chinese Avalon is about to get another one, pictured above. (The blue car is the US version)

While the Avalon sold only around 12,000 units in its last year in the US, it was up to over 118,000 in China. And over 126,000 units last year alone. You can see what Toyota keeps updating it. However, it is now over 8 years old and it would be a good idea for Toyota to think of a new one. A really new one. Not another facelift.

The all-new Toyota Bz7 sedan could be seen as a much more modern replacement to the Avalon. The new electric sedan looks stunning. And is even longer by about 6 inches. It was already a hit at launch with over 3100 orders in just the first hour it went on sale.

And by the way, that large, futuristic, luxurious Bz7 EV costs about $21,000 in China.

Just saying…

That’s right. $21,000…

  1. It’s actually called the Toyota Asia Dragon currently.

China invests their tax dollars into subsidizing different industries.

The US subsidizes oil company profits, dairy prices, corn production—but we don’t do the things we think we want to by spurring innovation. Instead we double down on the old guard to mixed effect.
