Toyota land Cruiser EV Preview.

We’ve all seen the Land Cruiser Se Concept from Toyota a few years ago. (2023 exactly). And we know a production version is finally coming. Toyota had mentioned that 3 new 3 row EVs would eventually be produced in the US. And now we do have more about the upcoming electric Land Cruiser.

As you can see from the bottom image, Toyota has finally started testicn prototypes outdoors. Even comparing it to the “real” Land Cruiser to make sure people knwo it’s not just “another electric SUV”. And yet, worldwide Land Cruiser fans/nerds will probably be pissed. And it won’t be seen by many as a real Land Cruiser. Even it Toyota says it is.

The new EV will probably be based on the same EV platform as the upcoming Highlander EV and Lexus TZ. It would probably be more expensive than the Highlander. But not as much as the Lexus? That’s a lot of 3 rows SUVs at around the same price. However, teh land Cruiser name alone will probably carry a premium.

As for the design, the concept was very futuristic and didn’t look at all like what anyone would expect of a Land Cruiser. Which is fine. The illustrations above show a production version slightly toned down for production.

Whatever it is, it will be quite an event for Toyota. And maybe the first time it really expend the Land Crusier line. Except for the small and dorey looking Land Cruiser FJ sold overseas.

Thi scoul djust end up being too much to swallow for many Land Cruiser hardcore fans…

  1. wasn’t Toyota the company that stated two years ago that they were against EVs – now they have four on the market and keep rolling out more? My questions – does anyone want this? A Tesla Model3 and Y fighter, I get. This makes no sense at all.

  2. Those poor clueless souls, standing next to that windmill like it presents no clear and present danger. Godspeed.

Anyway, as someone actually considering a current, petrol Land Cruiser, I would most certainly not consider this because A) it is an EV, and while EVs are the future they are not practical for me at present, and B) it reminds me more of the new Highlander than a new Land Cruiser styling-wise. Toyota should pump its brakes on EVs for now.
