Next Hyundai Kona Leaks.

The current Hyundai Kona still looks pretty fresh, and yet another one seems to be around the corner. The current generation went into production in 2023 and the leak above already seems to show an all-new model. We have seen a few spy shots showing that things will look much more angular for the compact crossover soon. The image above is believed to be a very realistic illustration done from an actual spy shot showing the real front end design of the car. So basically, the front end is probably correct. While the rest of the design is still just a guess.

The new desing seems very, very angular. Almost architectural instead of a car design. The current generation Kona always looked a bit clunky to me. With all that black plastic crap all over. But for some reason, the whole thing also looks quite modern.

Sales of the current generation have been pretty good, but numbers have not been as high as for the previous model. I guess that would explain why a new design is coming out so quickly?

Beside seeing a few camouflaged prototypes, there is no real news about the next Kona. It will probable use a version of the current platform and powertrains. However I’m not sure if the EV model will come back or not since Hyundai just released the Ioniq 3. (everywhere except the US it seems). Basically the same situation Kia had with the EV3 and the Niro EV. No room for both…

What we know is that the new Kona will use the all-new Pleos Connect system. I’m sure it is technically an improvement. But it makes all new Hyundai interiors look the same. Since they all seem to have that big giant screen tablet on top of the console and the much smaller skinny screen behind the steering wheel. It seems all future Hyundais will have the same setup.

  1. The Koreans have quicker life cycles than any other maker selling cars in the US/Canada.

  2. It looks very brawny with a blend of new and retro which I think will age better than the current model that has the light bar on the front and back. And the old one has the weird triangle light in the back too. This new one looks sophisticated and I like it a lot.

  3. I hope this isn’t anything remotely close to the real thing. It looks extremely bland and cheap.

I thought the next gen Kona was supposed to be influenced by the Crater Concept. I am expecting to see bulging fenders on the next gen Kona similar to the bulging fenders on the new gen Avante/Elantra (which shares a platform with the Kona).

The vehicle in the illustration is a definite step backwards in design. After releasing the great looking 2027 Kia Seltos (also a platform mate to the Kona) and the upcoming new gen Avante/Elantra, I would expect the next gen Kona to be much better looking and more interesting than the rather boring and generic looking mess in the illustration.

I know I’m in the minority, but I think the current generation Kona is a great looking small crossover SUV. Along with the new 2027 Seltos, I think Hyundai/Kia currently have the best two entries in the segment.
