2028 Hyundai Boulder Preview.

The Hyundai Boulder Concept was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto show last November. It was immediately obvious that a production version would follow. And today, we do have more info about the real thing.
The illustrations above are based on a new patent image and that shows many differences with the concept. At first, these production model illustrations look quite similar to what I remembered of the concept. But, of course, they are actually quite different.
The whole thing now looks much rougher and even cheaper. It reminds me of the good old Lada Niva that was never sold in the US. (Although I think some of them went to Canada). The illustrations from the patent show a simpler, rougher look. It’s not sleek at all. And it also looks like it could, or at least should, be quite affordable. A true off-road conception to the Ford Bronco sport. For less.
Then powertrain is still a Hyundai secret, but the front end of the production model looks much more like an EV than the concept. Or at least a Hybrid. The concept’s powertrain was never revealed either.
Hyundai also mentioned a production version for around 2030. Actually they mentioned a pickup based on that new platform would be “delivered by 2030”. Which means an SUV version could still come earlier. If we already have patent images leaking, that truck is not 3 years away.
Whenever we see the real thing, it could be quite interesting. And will probably compete directly against the new Nissan Xterra. the Boulder connect was not a small vehicle at about 10 inches longer than a Hyundai Tucson. And the Xterra will be pretty large as well.
