This Could Be What the 2028 Honda Civic Looks Like.

We’ve all seen the Honda Hybrid Sedan prototype a few months ago. More recently, Acura showed, again, their SUV Prototype at a press event in Los Angeles. Which is a preview of the next generation 2028 Acura RDX hybrid. It now seems the Honda Sedan concept is actually a preview of the upcoming new Honda Crosstour.

Le’t see what the new Honda Civic could really look like. One that would look different from the Crosstour/Sedan prototype. But one that would keep a few of its design cues. We already know the new Civic generation will come out late this year or early next year. It will be based on an all-new platform. With a improved hybrid powertrain. Which could also become standard for the new generation. Something that might depend on what Toyota will do with the new Corolla.

A brand new Toyota Corolla is due next November in the US. As it will show up at the Los Angeles Auto Show. And it might very well offer a hybrid powertrain as standard equipment, just like so many other current Toyota models these days.

The new Civic Hybrid system is expected to bring a 10% improvement in MPG. Which would bring it up to around 54MPG combined. The new platform is lighter by up to 200 pounds, and is engeneered to offer AWD. However, that might only be offered on the Crosstour model.

Cost is also rumored to shrink, which is good news for Honda. But not for the rest of us. We’ve recently seen Honda deleating features like rear seat vents and plugs to save a few bucks on the current Civic.

The images above show a much less interesting design than the Hybrid Sedan Prototype. That prototype is a very close preview of something. Which I think is the new Crosstour, and not the Civic or Accord. The real new Civic could look a bit more conservative and dare I say “boring”. Something closer to the illustrations above.

But at least, it will probably look better, much better, than the current generation. Which, in my uninformed opinion, was always a huge step back from th eprevious design.

There’s still hope…

  1. I really am not liking Honda’s designs recently. A lot of these concepts look dated. I like the 2023+ Accord and 2023+ CRV sport and up design and that’s about it.
