2029 Jaguar Type 02 SUV Preview.

As we all know, Jaguar just introduced the controversial all-new Type-01 sedan. A 4-door luxury GT that will probably start at around $125,000 in the US next year. The new style will also influence the design of an upcoming SUV, probably called the Type 02.
Of course, an SUV will instantly become the volume leader of the new Jaguar range. Since you know, that’s what people buy these days. Even those who want something very different, like a new Jag.
The Type 01 sedan uses a brand new platform and powertrain that will be good for a 400 miles range in the EPA test cycle. Of course, it might be tough for the US to match this figure. However, it will be needed. I am not sure if the USV will be more or less expensive than the sedan, but it could actually be a bit more affordable. If not, it wouldn’t cost much more than the sedan.
I am sure Jaguar will do its best not to compete against Range Rover. Which starts at $138,000 in the US. Physically, the Type 01 design cues will be obvious, and the Jag will be more like a luxury crossover. Basically, an SUV version of the Type 01. Nothing that looks like it could go off-road, even with AWD.
It would also compete against the Lucid Gravity, which starts at “just” around $80,000. Just like the sedan, the SUV will not be for everyone. However, the rather blunt, angular shape might work better on an SUV, at least for most people.
I personally really like the sedan. Of course, it might not be that fun to drive around town with such narrow windows and a long, flat hood, but who knows. I really admire the designers and the company for producing it.
I personally think there will be a waiting list for the sedan when it becomes available, like there is for everything that is so different. Whether the initial success will last is difficult to guess. It didn’t for the Cybertruck, but that thing is quite a mess. It was also quickly surrounded by political issues. Which will not be a problem for Jaguar.
I really hope the rebirth of the brand works. Jaguar was always a different alternative to the German Luxury brands. They have now pushed that ideology to its limit. Let’s hope they haven’t pushed too far.
