New Citroën 2CV Concept.

After all these years, it seems Citroën is finally ready to bring back the iconic and legendary 2CV. This time as a small, affordable EV that should cost around 15,000 Euros .
The bottom photo shows the original Citroën 2CV. The image shows a later model with the rectangular headlights, probably from the 1970s.
The amazing small Citroën was produced from 1948 to 1990. Which does sound pretty crazy. Of course, the 1990 model was not the same car as the one in the late 40’s or 50’s. But the mission was the same: affordable and comfortable. Almost 4 million of these were produced. It was also pretty modern for its time. A Front Wheel Drive car with independent suspension in 1948.
For many years, we’ve heard rumors of a new one. Recently, other European manufacturers have been coming up with smaller and more affordable EVs based on their nostalgic designs from the past. Like the Fiat 500e, or the more recent Renault 4, 5, and Twingo EVs.
Stellantis decided to pull the trigger and finally come up with a new 2cv EV. And I think it is, of course, a great idea. The design is fun and exactly what a modern 2CV should be and look like.
However, this is still just a concept. The production version is scheduled for the 2028 model year. Although Renault did tease us with a Twingo concept before the production car. The real thing ended up almost exactly like the concept. So there is hope for something that cool-looking to enter production.
Since most European manufacturers seem to be looking into their most iconic models for new affordable EV designs, the most obvious would of course be a new VW Beetle. That company is so poorly run that it probably will take them many years to jump into that market. A brand new Beetle generation would be a perfect new small affordable German EV. But no. They just cannot see it. And by the time they do, it will be, again, too late.
I really applaud Stellantis for this. Of course, we’ll never see this over here. But who knows, maybe a few could end up through Chrysler dealers? As a special import?
Why not…
