Should Chevrolet Build a 4-Door Corvette?

GM has been hard at work on 3 new North American market sedans for Buick, Cadillac, and Chevrolet. All based on the same platform as the current CT5. We already know the Cadillac will be a second-generation CT5. The Buick is still a total mystery. It is widely believed the Chevrolet model will be a 4-door version of a next-generation Camaro. But what if GM finally gave us a new 4-door Corvette?

This would no doubt be a blasphemous vehicle for many. (Most of these shocked and disgusted individuals who would actually never buy a Corvette in the first place). But Porsche has indeed paved the way with many previously unthinkable ideas. And it has so far worked very well for them. We first had the Cayenne SUV. The Panamera 4-door sedan and even the Taycan 4 door EV sedan. All of these were just unthinkable just a few years before their launch.

A new 4 door Corvette could still look good and quite impressive if done well. It could also be quite an improvement over the current tacky-looking model. It could also give us a return to the classic long hood proportions, since it would be based on the same RWD platform as the new Cadillac CT5.

I am pretty sure GM has been exploring ways to cash in on the Corvette name for many years. Just a few years ago they were rumors of a whole Corvette sub-brand. (That apparently went nowhere. At least not yet).

Like everything else, the Corvette is not as affordable as it “almost” used to be starting at over $71,000 these days. A more premium 4 door model could even cost more. And still be a lot cheaper than a base Porsche Panamera at around $114,000.

The illustrations above show what a 4 seater 4-door Chevrolet Corvette could look like. But we could think of hundreds of designs. It is a very intersting idea to explore, at least visually.
