2022 Nissan Pathfinder: official pix…

Last Updated:

We finally get to see the a-new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder!
And let’s mention first (Since this subject always gets tons of comments), the CVT is dead!
At least in the Pathfinder.
While it is not using the new 3.8 Liter V6 (It keeps the 3.5 Liter), a new 9-speed automatic has replaced the CVT that so many commenters hated.
The new Pathfinder can now seat up to 8 people as well.
As it should be, the new model is better than the old one in every way. (Which wasn’t that hard to do)
The new generation now faces tough competition. Since a new Grand Cherokee L just came out. Honda is working on a new Pilot. And the Santa Fe and Telluride didn’t even exist a few years ago.
I have to say, the new Pathfinder makes the Telluride look kind of lumpy and old already. Which is what I thought when I saw the slick new Grand Cherokee too…
The new Pathfinder really looks modern and clean outside. Somehow, (At least from these photos) I am not as impressed with the interior. Which is not as clean as the exterior. A bit cluttered. And also not as luxurious and almost futuristic as the new Grand Cherokee L.
At least the Pathfinder is back as a serious contender. Finally…

  1. So Nissan and Mits had a love child…what's with the Gillette face?

This looks ok in a world of really good. Merge this opinion w/ Nissans abysmal quality control and you have a recipe for share loss….volume will go up, but it's pretty hard for it not to go up in the SUV loving world.

As for the CVT – they're replacing something (transmission) that didn't work (QC) despite years of being the biggest supporters of it – with something that is new, and likely won't work (see CVT comment).

  2. The exterior just might be best in a very competitive class. The interior is a big improvement as well. The no CVT powertrain though is like a Christmas miracle in February. Great job Nissan!!

  3. Rogue XL? I agree that's it's only ok in a world of more attractive designs. Something should stand out in some way. Hoping the Rogue XS…I mean… Sport has something different and fun.

  4. Wow, talk about boring. We waited how long for this big Rogue with a bland interior. At least they didn't use their piece of crap CVT.

  5. It's a big improvement. To compete with the 2 door Bronco, Nissan can spin off a two door as they did years ago.

  6. why would anyone buy this instead of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L or the Palisade/Telluride twins? how does it compete: styling, performance, quality or price?

  7. Wow, so many negative Nancy’s here. This thing looks SHARP! It’s light years ahead of the previous generation model and now looks to be on par with the best in this class. It’s not perfect, but what vehicle is? This is a great step in the right direction and will sell well for Nissan. I think a lot of the hate stems from the fact that the Pathfinder used to be something different in days gone by, but to those haters, I say tough luck. Old school body on frame SUV’s are now a niche product. That’s the world we live in. So to Nissan I say, kudos for a job well done.

  8. Is it the same 9 speed used by Chrysler and that Honda decided to replace by something else on it's Pilot? If it is, what a piece of crap, no?
