2026 VW T-ROC.

The VW T-ROC Compact SUV is getting a makeover very soon. These photos show how different it is (or not) from the current first generation.

The T-ROC came out in Europe in 2017, and was revised in 2021. A version of the European T-ROC is also sold in China with a slightly longer wheelbase.

The small SUV has been quite a hit for VW with 290,000 produced in 2023 alone. For some reason, VW decided not to sell the T-ROC in North America and gave us the much more boring Taos in 2018. Also known as the Tharu in China. As VW believes North American and Chinese buyers have the same taste and what they sell in the US is now mostly some of the stuff they sell in China, not in Europe.

I guess with almost 99,000 sold in the US in 2023 it is not a flop.

The new T-ROC pictured above looks a lot like the current model. With a new face and rear end. However, upon further inspection, you can tell the body panels are actually different with fewer lines and creases. Still, this is the usual VW’Audi story where most of their new models look almost the same as the previous generation.

I know they are trying to get rid of conventional grilles, but that huge opening in the bumper looks quite ghastly and isn’t really an improvement…
