Acura NSX EV.

Yes, that is true. Acura is actually hard at work on a future electric NSX sports car. The illustration above shows what it could maybe look like.

Acura vice President mentioned a few months ago” The first-gen was gas. Second-gen was a hybrid. There’s gonna be another. Hopefully, that pure electric successor isn’t too far off”.

We then also heard “We are going to introduce a sports model in 2027 or 2028. We may not call it an NSX, but it’s kind of an NSX-type of vehicle”.

By the time it is released, in 2027 or 2028 the new Acura Sports car will be based on Honda’s new 0 Series platform. Which will have 3 new models by next year. 2 were previewed by the 0 Series sedan and SUV we saw a few weeks ago. the 3rd one is the 2026 Acura RSX.

The 2nd generation 520HP Acura NSX was a car that many were dreaming of and asking for for many years. Since the 1st generation production ended back in 2005. And something very few people actually bought. Its best year was 2017 with 581 units sold. All the way down to just 124 units in 2021. Which was even less than the first generation which reached almost 2000 units in 1991.

That means Acura really doesn’t need a new NSX. Tons of car nerds and magazine writers will ask for it, but few will buy one.

I guess one culprit was its crazy $160,000 price (2021). For that much cash, all of its competition has much more cachet and recognition. Making the Porsche 911 starting at around $120, 000 looks like a bargain. Even the Aston Martin Vantage had a starting price of around $142,000 back in 2021. (it’s much higher now).

I guess a super high price and total lack of recognition in that segment of the market is not the best combo.

Maybe they’ll do better next time. Especially it this new NSX shares its platform with a few other models.

  1. That last NSX wasn’t just expensive. It also had a front end that resembled the Honda Civic design cues. For a $160,000 exotic car, that’s a No-No. The first NSX sold because it wasn’t priced above its competition and it looked every bit like an exotic – without the exotic problems.
