2010 Ford Taurus

Last Updated:

I guess someone at the Ford’s design studio is in trouble.
Even if it’s blurry, you can se a lot on this picture from the Taurus Car Club of America.

This car is supposed to go on sale next year. Not sure what it’s based on, but the 3.5 Liter V6 and 6 speed auto remain.

It looks very nice, but not really stunning. Not really better than the current Euro Mondeo.
And that’s been out for a while.
I wonder if by 2010 it will be a case of too little too late….

  1. Hmm, not quite as nice as the Mondeo, but definitely better than I was expecting. They need to get this out NOW, not in 2010.

  2. Possibly related to the MKS?

Looks nice…..TOO nice for a Ford in THIS country.

The dimensions look the same as the current model, they just reshaped the windows and doors…

I’m curious about the look of the Sable.

I wonder if it’ll be Ford’s “Malibu” revolution.

  3. I don’ think there will be a Sable version of this . The revised 2009 Milan is might be the last Mercury ever.
They have nothing at all scheduled after that…

  4. WOW, I can’t believe I could be coveting a 2012 taurus SHO…
No really slick car. But as others have stated 2010 may be too late.

  5. Cut Ford just an ounce of slack, Vince. It’s a vast improvement over Ford sedans of the past. And I’d be willing to bet that the production version will look even better than the pic. Ford understands the stakes this time around.

  6. Does anyone not notice the clay styling buck for what looks to be the next-generation Mustang in the background? Isn’t that more interesting?

I mean, its clearly the mustang, seeing as it has the fast-back style c-pillar and big fender flares, and what looks to be a body only long enough for two doors.

  7. Too late for what ? its just a cycle that all manufactures go thru, ford will have taurus and flex, verve, transit, new mustang, new f-150 and sales will be huge, Mullally will look like a godsend sent from the heavens ford will be profitable again for a few years… then they will let there product get old and stale and cry once again, at least hyundai, honda and toyota have the smarts on 4 year cycles and keeping product fresh and sales even or steady, and not letting there product get real old (focus,e series, town car, crown vic) some day they will learn

  8. I believe it will sell, the current Taurus is selling (maybe not like hotcakes, but it is selling). It looks nice, would be better if it was rear wheel drive to compete with the Chatger and G8…maybe get Ford back to having police cars again.

  9. I cannot believe I’m going to say this… but this is a beautiful sedan. I really hope that this is the direction for all future Fords. They really need to get away from the design phase they’re in right now.

  10. tho I do like the current Taurus’s looks (500 too), the superTaurus is really gorgeous.

and since the Sable looks even better than the Taurus, sure hope there’s Merc version coming too

  11. There’s a fan club for practically anything….

‘Tis a glorious day when the Americans start copying the KOREANS!

  12. Hot damnity damn, i like it!

And this 2010 model will likely arrive in less than eighteen months, probably September of next year…

  13. 2010? A car this handsome should have been available yesterday.

Lose the Taurus name, too. That’s not something worth remembering or admiring.

  14. Leave it to Ford to ruin a good thing. This pre-production beauty will most likely never see the light of day here in the states! It will most likely though become some version of a costlier Lincoln platform that most of us will not be able to afford or willing to lay the big bucks down for.

  15. Wow, Ford actually put some guys with brains into designing their cars now. Just the fog lights are a bit ugly. Love the headlights and grill. FORD, lets hope all your cars will be beautiful from now on!

  16. Too late for what? Come on! If there was a choice between this and the current accord/camry, this would win hands down. Only design competition would be the new malibu. Good job Ford. Suggestion…get it out NOW!

  17. Looks like a Mazda design to me and obout 5 other models. I guess they want to blend into the crowd. The engineers must be scambling at Ford. Poor deigns in the past coupled by a tough market may take them down.

  18. Burlapp are you insane??? What did you expect from a refresh of a Taurus? This looks MILES better than the current model and the Mondeo is great looking and has been out for less than 1 year! This is beyond great for a Taurus!

  19. ‘if they build it they will come’, this is an extremely handsome design. Alan please don’t keep this just design for Europe, we need it here now!! This should have been built yesterday.

The current Ford crop of cars are sadly garbage and I wouldn’t spend a dime on one. With the new Mondeo it proves that Ford can build a fine car. If they sold the Mondeo wagon here I would be first in line to get one. Now if they took this taurus and designed a wagon version I think it would be a stunning car as well.

If Ford took Volvo quality interiors and put them in this new sedan it would put fear into the competition.

Lastly, I hear all this talk about Ford can’t import the Mondeo, focus, etc, because of the expense. Why not just design and built it here? They had to design the current crop at some point didn’t they? So this business of not being able to have the euro versions here because of cost is garbage. Just retool and build darnit!

Again, if they really, really cared about building the brand and making money they would do all they could to built cars that would shame the competiton. Just my two cents…..

  20. The existing Taurus looks like 2002 Passat. New one will look like a 2002 Accord. ‘Looks better than a Sebring’ should be good for a few hundred sales.

  21. I hope this is a production version of what’s going to come out and not a prototype that will be watered down 70%. I like this car a lot and I would SERIOUSLY consider buying it in the future. Ford, get this car into production FAST. If this car starts selling a year from now it will sell like hotcakes and I’ll buy one because the competion has NOTHING like it (within the price range). I hope Ford does’nt wait too long to sell it because if they do the competition will have at least equal, perhaps better stuff. This is your big chance Ford…..DON’T BLOW IT! I’M PULLING FOR YOU! BUILD IT AND I’LL BUY IT! Also put a 6 speed MANUMATIC and direct injection in it please.

  22. “Lose the Taurus name, too. That’s not something worth remembering or admiring.”

I disagree. It’s not usually the name of the vehicle that creates the emotion that people feel about the vehicle, it’s the vehicle that determines how we feel about the name. The first generation Taurus evoked a positive emotion because the car was revolutionary. The name was trashed with the launch of the lame second generation. The thing that the Taurus name does have is brand recognition. The negative stigma can be easily fixed with a good product.

After three decades of the Chevy Malibu being complete trash, the negative stigma has been almost completely forgotten practically overnight with the launch of the current one.

  23. I disagree. It’s not usually the name of the vehicle that creates the emotion that people feel about the vehicle,

I appreciate your opinion, but bullsh*t. Why do advertisers spend billions on brand name emotions? Do you really believe that people don’t buy Porches for name alone? Compare a 924 to a 911 and get back with me.

it’s the vehicle that determines how we feel about the name. The first generation Taurus evoked a positive emotion because the car was revolutionary.

Pahleeze. The first Taurus copied the Audi 100 and its aerodynamic look.

The name was trashed with the launch of the lame second generation. The thing that the Taurus name does have is brand recognition. The negative stigma can be easily fixed with a good product.

Respectfully, what the hell are you talking about? Taurus’ name is not respectful regardless of the first generation. It, like the Malibu, has been relegated to fleet sales.

After three decades of the Chevy Malibu being complete trash, the negative stigma has been almost completely forgotten practically overnight with the launch of the current one.

Many people would still be ashamed to say they owned a Malibu. The stigma remains. But we’ll see how it plays out in sales against it’s competitors.

I wish the Ford and the Chevy all the best, but you really shouldn’t be their cheerleader.

  24. Interesting. I agree with all of what ne1butu wrote, and pretty much none of what you did.

    How ’bout that.

GOOD NEWS! Ford read your post and has decided to do exactly what you suggested. Expect the new stuff within about 3 years.

…now I gotta ask: Why the heck couldn’t you have thought of this sooner???

  26. With all due respect I agree with ne1butu also. I think that just because you change the name of something to the name of something that was successful, does’nt mean that I should buy it if it’s still a P.O.S. With me it’s all about product. I don’t care what it’s called as long as it’s a very good vehicle that performs well, is reliable, looks good and is a great value. The current Taurus has some of these traits but it looks like crap and does’nt perform well so I don’t want it. However it does perform better with the new 3.5l v6. I like this new Taurus/500/? and am looking forward to seeing it in production and in my driveway.

    Opinions are like assholes.

Just kidding. I’m glad we can offer different opinions here, and maybe, sometimes, share the same ones. I think the number of comments on this one car indicates that Ford is onto something good. Let’s just hope we’ll have the opportunity to drive one.
